“An Experience”
Reviewed May 29, 2012

Our meal at Moise (a group of 8) was certainly a unique experience. The ambiance was amazing as was the food (although the menu is pretty limited, as is the seating - there's about 4 tables all together). Moise hosted us like we were eating at his home, poked-fun at us, recommended dishes, and eventually he and Simone sat down with us for exceptional dessert and a bottle of champagne, on the house. Definitely one of the better dining experiences we have had in Jerusalem (we are locals).

“Exceptional experience, combining outstanding food and unique ambience.”
Reviewed January 17, 2012

Eating at Moise is like being invited into a small, rustic French inn at the invitation of the proprietor. Cooking is by the Paul Bocuse-trained Simone, while the eponymous, handlebar-moustached Moise hosts the tiny (10 - seat) reataurant. The menu is full of exquisite dishes, excellent tastes and textures. We especially likes the veal "bacon"; the beautifully cooked marinated beef rib (shared for two); and the best profiteroles I have ever tasted. Difficult to believe they were parev. Moise will discuss the food and wine choices with you. This is a really special experience, and would be wherever the restaurant was situated. Outstanding food and a lot of fun. Suggest reservation. This restaurant is known and recommended by word of mouth.

“Moise - A bit too much hype”
Reviewed December 21, 2011

We went to Moise for my wife's birthday on glowing recommendations. The food was good but not great. Not quite up to my expectations.
It is a kosher French restaurant. Very small with 4 tables. The decor is sort of quasi-Provence cast off junk perched precariously on overhead shelves, sort of like a cleaned out storeroom. Claude, the owner's husband and waiter is a wonderful person who obviously enjoys meeting and interacting with his worldwide clientele. In short, it's kind of like eating in some aunt's kitchen.
As for the food, the lamb bacon starter was quite unusual and very good. Like the real thing. Chestnut soup, good but nothing to write home about. For mains, duck confit was good but so subtle as to be a pretty plain stew. Beef bourguignon was good. With a middle course of sherbet and calvados, a glass of wine and bingo, 450 shekels. A bit steep for a good but not special meal. Pleasant and "romantic" meal but nothing to knock your socks off.
