“Peaceful escape from hectic Old City”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013

Great rooftop for viewing the Old City! The coffee shop prices are quite steep. I guess they jack them up to sponsor their work in the city? It's clearly a tourist stop for people who want an apple streudel or macciotto "just like at home". But it was a good apple streudel!

“Nice place for coffee break while in the Old City”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2013

The best thing about the Austrian Hospice is the atmosphere. The minute you walk inside, you're transported back some 150 years to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. For me, the coffee is over-priced, but the Apple Strudel is OK, and it's a quiet and relaxing place to sit and switch off from the noise and the bustle of the market just outside in the Moslem Quarter. Situated just off the Via Dolorosa, you have to ring the bell to get in.

“Nice place for a coffee or beer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2013

If you know what to look for this is not that difficult to find just off Via Dolorosa, if you have no clue you probably won't ring that bell. The place, for me, was great for a little break from the summer heat and narrow streets of the old town. They serve good coffee and some decent beer or drinks, the food was ok but nothing special. Highly recommended for relaxation.

“a very special experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2013

This place is not so easy to find, but it is totally worth it. Don't go there for food - it is more point of interest then a restaurant. Wander around the huge calm marble-floored place, take a cappuccino and strudel in the garden and try to remember the location, so that you can find it next time!

“Probably the best budget value in Jerusalem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2013

You can't get much better than this. Centrally located on the Via Dolorosa in the heart of the Old City. 5 mins to Damascus gate, 8 mins to Garden tomb, 5 mins to Church of the Holy Sepulchre, 7-8 mins to Western Wall. Sparse but clean and tidy. SIngle beds in dormitories only. Everyone has a lock box. Great breakfast, and a great evening meal that must be ordered ahead of time, but it's much cheaper than out on the street. And if you have a rental car, with prior arrangement, you can enter through Steven's gate (aka Lions' Gate) and drive to the hospice and park securely.
