“The Passover pasta dishes were great. Good selection. Nice restaurant.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

The Passover pasta dishes were great. Good selection. Nice restaurant. We enjoyed the nice cool ac on a hot day when we got a great table inside. The ice cream was grand. I think it was Ben and Jerry's best chocolate chunk flavors. Dishes were pretty big.
Totally recommended.

“Good Food, High Prices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

If you are looking for american style food with NYC prices this is the place to eat! I ate at this restaurant with my family on many occasions and usually left full. The service is usually pretty good and it is always fairly crowded. It is nice during the winter when they put out heat lamps and you sit outdoors.

“Great location with views of the City Walls”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2013

We stopped here twice, to decompress after visiting the Old City. Both times we actually enjoyed the slow service and thought the waitress did a great job in giving us space to relax before ordering. So, we thought the service was wonderful. There was enough variety on the menu including simple dishes such as salads wraps, and pasta. The portions were enough for two to share and I had the most enjoyable cup of mint tea. We went just to relax and despite being crowded, found seats quickly on both occasions. I think the location in the Shopping Pavilion is perfect before returning from the Old City to your hotel.

“A Kosher Gem off Ben Yehuda Street”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

I was doing volunteer work in Israel recently and was referred to Cafe Rimon on Lunz St. off Ben Yehuda in Jerusalem. We had such a good meal Friday, just before closing for the sabbath that we went back for dinner Saturday night when they reopened.

This is a kosher restaurant and you must decide whether you want 'meat' or 'dairy' as that determines which side of the restaurant you will sit. Mixing meals is not allowed at a table.

First, let me say that I would have given it 5 stars, except service was spotty, but the food was outstanding.

I am not a baker, so I cannot give details on the bread brought to us, except to say, that it was fantastic. I could have made a meal of it with a salad and been truly satisfied.

However, both nights we enjoyed fish dinners.
One of their signature dishes is crispy tuna. There are strips of white tuna--I do not know from which kind of tuna, but it was coated in what seemed like panko and lightly fried. The seasoning was excellent and the meat stayed moist. An unusual way of cooking tuna for an American, but absolutely some of the best I have eaten.

We also had an order of Sea Bass that was cooked perfectly. The plate arrived with two very large filets and garnish.

Saturday's meal differed only in that the Sea Bass was not available, so we had Salmon steaks instead. They were beautifully grilled and seasoned, each being about an inch thick.

All three servings sizes could easily be shared by two.

Friday's meal cost about $30 per person, Saturday a bit more, at $45.

Cafe Rimon is on our definite return list on our next trip to Jerusalem.

“A lottery on food- but a good chance you'll spin those magic numbers.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2013

This is the best place for lunch in the Mamilla area. We also ate there one evening. The halloumi is perfection, the salads divine and I've never had better bread- crusty, seeded and utterly addictive. When they do something well, they do it very well and in huge portions

Sadly, we did have a couple of complaints. Pasta is very average, and never order pizza here. They have absolutely no idea how to make an authentic pizza- ours was like a pre-packaged home pizza, all doughy and stodgy and underdone, clearly never seen the inside of a proper pizza oven. Needs major improvement. Also, we’ve been in a couple of times just for their limonada- a sensational minty and lemon slushed drink to write home about- so would normally urge everyone to go in and try it. Disappointing, then, that yesterday lunchtime we ordered limanada as usual and got a tasteless, watery, melted version which I was close to sending back.

Service is slow and unfriendly, but the seating outside more than makes up for that on a sunny spring day with lovely glimpses of the old City walls.
