I had high expectations when I paid a pre-visit to check out restaurant and subsequently made a booking for same evening. We were given the table that we requested. Three starters were ordered and 2 of them pronounced good but the Onion rings were overcooked. The three main meal steaks were good too but the French fries left a lot to be desired. I was disappointed that the Pulled Beef was served whole and not pulled, it was adequate but if it had been cooked more then would have been moist and falling apart which it didn't and I had to request more gravy in order to eat it. The 15% service charge was unacceptably high and the service provided did not measure up to it.

I agree with Skokie60076 - There is NO excuse for the slow service!! We came in for our reservation at 8:30. One appetizer we ordered was brought out quickly, but our meals took MORE THAN AN HOUR!!! We had a hard time getting waiter to bring drinks and plain old water! While we were waiting an owner came to bring us "complimentary wine". We dont drink alcohol, and told him we just want food, not wine! When the food finally arrived one of the steaks was too dry and they did bring another quickly, but it was not a good one, as most of it was tough and fatty. The prices here are VERY expensive, and we expected a great meal, served on time, with great service. We were told as we left, that "everyone was told it is busy and you will have a long wait". We were NOT told that - no one said anything about a long wait. Furthermore, there is NO EXCUSE for making people wait. If a restaurant cannot serve their customers in a timely fashion, they will not last long. There are plenty of other places to eat, and at these prices, I will take my business elsewhere. I plan on telling my family and friends to AVOID this place, unless they want crappy, SLOW service and want to WASTE A LOT of time and money!!

This was easily the best meal out of our trip. Red Heifer is a true New York steakhouse experience, and the service was excellent as well. The location is actually slightly off the beaten tourist path, which makes for a refreshing change. The owner is very hands-on and visited every table to make sure everyone was happy.
Not to be missed on any Jerusalem visit1

Opposite the King David Hotel lies this hidden treasure.

At the higher end of the price ladder (expect to pay a minimum of £50 pp) you get to enjoy a gourmet meal.

The food is delicious, the staff are friendly and helpful and the owner, a young man who certainly understands the restaurant business, is most charming and unpretentious. He gets involved with everything - you can easily mistake him for a member of staff.

The bill includes a 15% service charge,

The location is very central yet secluded.

The only restaurant in Israel that I've been to where there isn't a constant noise of people shouting.

Pricy, but well worth it.

The main thing about any restaurant is whether or not it serves good food.

Here the Red Heifer does an excellent job, producing first rate steaks with all the trimmings.

Unfortunately a restaurant also needs to go that extra yard especially when prices are on the expensive side as they are here.

Silly little things like cheap cutlery, paper napkins and offering Nescafé really don't fit with the presumably desired image of fine dining. More importantly the owner seems to be somewhat selective in who he engages in conversation. Being ignored and then having his derrière almost in your face while he chats with the next door table are not traits that will endear him to some diners.

So bottom line...great food butt...
