Feels like you are dining in an ancient place and time and very near the Jaffa Gate . Went there twice and really enjoyed the 'khaghjoghi" ( ground beef in grape leaves with peppers, tomatoes and onions in a lemony yogurt sauce.)

The restaurant is just up the hill from the Christ Church B+B [near Jaffa gate]. Easy to miss so take the address. As you walk down into the narrow room, you sense the age and history. We were seated further down in a room filled with antiques. During a pre-dinner beer & wine we read the history of Armenians in Jerusalem; an eye-opener! OK, we focused on Armenian selections and we enjoyed our food. The service was tops and our needs were filled ASAP. I would return again for a drop-in drink or full dinner. We departed with a feeling of an Armenian experience.

I live in Israel and whenever I visit the Old City, I always eat at the Armenian Tavern. Great food and fabulous atmosphere. The restaurant has been in the family since the 1930's.
A must place to eat in the Old City.

Focus on the decor, the history and the music and definately don't order the white wine, go for the red. Service was fine and the prices ok. I guarantee you will not eat in an older or more charming restaurant

We were drawn to this place since it looked warm and inviting and it was a rare snowy day in Jerusalem. We wandered down the stairs to an amazing arched room which was the setting for a monestary 1000 years ago. We had the mixed grill with chicken. Plenty of food for two at lunch. The Israeli merlot was tasty as well. Highly recommended. (we later discovered that this place is famous, but at the moment it was our private find!)
