That day, when we travelled to the Mount of Olives, our guide had in schedule, the visit to the Church of Ascension. It is rather small building, with dome on the top of the structure, made of accurately carved white stones, nearly of the shape of something bigger bricks. Also, there are the arches, along the perimeter of the outer boundary of chapel, and the columns under the arches. In the proximity of this chapel, there is a wall, that encircles the court with the chapel, and behind this wall, we spotted also a mosque of the Ascension.
All this area is the part of the larger complex, consisting of a Christian church and an Islamic mosque. Here is, the spot, widely considered as the earhly space, where Jesus ascended into Heaven forty days after his resurrection. Also, we were said, that this chapel contains a slab of stone, with one of Jesus's footprints.
In our deliberate examination of this area, we, by chance, came across the little elegant Orthodox Ascension Church.
That visit, in addition to all previous viewed, too, enriched our cognition about these Biblical matters.
