“A nice place... but not too much”
Reviewed December 30, 2013 via mobile

Located in east Jerusalem, this restaurant is just quite good. We were two couples, went there without any reservation at 8.30 pm. With our surprise the restaurant was empty. Just 30 minutes and it became full of tourists (most of them Italian). Personnel is friendly but not too much, food is good but not too much, price is on average of some other restaurants. You can eat Arab food and some Palestine's specialties, but also pasta and other typical tourist food. It's not a real Arab restaurant as we got an alcoholic beer... From Palestine....
Definitely not a restaurant we would go again or recommend

“Nice meal - a bit pricey for East Jerusalem but worth it”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

When we got there for dinner the place we were the sole patrons in the place (only three other people came in while we ate) An individual, waiter/seater/ perhaps everything including cook (since we saw no other staff our entire time there)

The restaurant had been recommended to us during our time in Jerusalem and does, by and large, have good reviews here on Trip Advisor so we decided to give it a try.

The restaurant is far closer to Herod's Gate then Damascus, being about three blocks away from that entrance into the old city. Philadelphia Restaurant is in East Jerusalem, situated in an alley on a side street that was not all that well lit and had more then a little garbage on it. At night many tourists probably would not feel comfortable walking around in the area, but when we left we walked to Herod's Gate and flagged down a taxi with no problem (there is a police station directly across the street from Herod's gate)

As the place was empty when we went it obviously is not a local hotspot (perhaps far later in the evening?) , and you can see why the second you open up the menu - the prices are rather steep at first glance (and second/third etc) and given the paucity of patronage we thought about leaving immediately.

Not wanting to go through the hassle of figuring out somewhere else to eat (and having to grab a taxi) we ordered and were both pleasantly surprised at the quality of the meal - it really was quite delicious! As has been written by others a number of other items were brought out in inclusion to what we ordered - the hummus was delicious, I had the lamb and was quite pleased.

The meal ranked with some of the best on the trip, if your staying in East Jerusalem this is definitely worth the splurge (though if your staying in East Jerusalem (which I have done and enjoyed - National Hotel is an excellent value..) you might not be splurging on meals.

“Hard to find, but worth it”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

We spent the better part of an hour looking for this restaurant, but we were rewarded. It stated in a guide that the restaurant was across the street from the Damacus Gate. It was not. It was hidden on a side street/alley. When we finally arrived there the restaurant was empty and we were concerned. It seems they didn't normally serve lunch, but they accomodated us anyway. And it was good fresh food. It wasn't until when we were talking to the waiter later that we discovered trhey didn't serve lunch, but we both thought the wait was worth it. I had the lamb, and it was cooked just right. I would defintely return to this restaurant, especially now that I know how to get there.

“One of the best”
Reviewed July 10, 2013 via mobile

In comparison to many places I dined during my stay in Jerusalem and also tel aviv, this was the best for value, and food was also great.

The menu initially seemed very pricey, however, they brought out a large amount of complimentary entrees (the most delicious falafel and hummus included). The restaurant has a modern style both indoor and outdoor.
Must try place if you're staying in Jerusalem.

“good restaurant”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

Nice restaurant, good food, but no big choice for vegetarians I'm afraid. Bit expensive. It is near to the hotel (national hotel) where we we4re staying. The salad was good, but the lentil soup was a bit thin. the portion were good
