Jerusalem Panorama Hotel
Ranked #81 of 101 Hotels in Jerusalem
Reviewed April 3, 2011

We stayed at the Panorama based on its relatively cheap price for Jerusalem. It is located on the Mt of Olives, and once you recognize its profile on the hillside, it is easy to find your way to. The rooms are old and not in very good order. As has been mentioned, the hotel has a great view of old Jerusalem. The staff are excellent and make effort to see to it that your needs are met. Breakfast is ample, but the juices are watery and the fruits are canned. There is really nothing around the neighborhood in terms of restaurants or nightlife. There are produce markets near the hotel and a convenience store across the street. The hotel offers secure parking on site in a small lot in front of the hotel. There are generally neighborhood kids walking the streets who may approach for money or taunts. We didn't find that much of a deterrent, but if you are bothered by such things-be aware. For budget minded travelers with a vehicle, this would be a place to consider. There is a mosque nearby and you will hear the calls to prayer, however, they were not as loud as many other places we stayed while in Isreal and Jordan. It is not an exclusive accommodation by any means, but it is a fairly convenient base for operation while in Jerusalem and will permit you to save some money.

We stayed 5 days in this hotel and we will come back next time when we visit Jerusalem.
The room was basic but good and clean. The service was very good.
Good location and a great view!

I have stayed at the Panorama previously and was happy to return, if you are a traveller who prefers Hilton style standards dont go. If however like me you want a fabulous location to the Old City with views that are breathtaking, a great Israeli breakfast, secure parking available for your hire car and are satisfied with a clean bed and a bathroom en suite then this is the best place. I paid £48 per night for 2 people, the staff are friendly and helpful. It can be noisy at night but I didnt go to Jerusalem for the sound I went for the view, the sites and the experience. I heartily recommend this place and will definitely return again God willing.

We just stayed two nights and got a room which gave us a great view morning and night of the city. the room was nothing particularly great but having searched the internet for other hotels the price was as good as we could have got at the time. the breakfast room also gave a great panorama. The coffee was good and I liked the houmous. The fruit was tinned and don't know why they can't at least give fresh oranges as they are sold as juice all over the city. Staff were friendly and relaxed. i didn't find it noisy though I sleep through most things :)

Yes it does have great views but you can only really enjoy staying here if you are deaf, enjoy being heckled by Arab children and like being over charged for pap food.

Why not to stay at the pan hotel;

Noise from children blowing horns;
Noise from cars;
Noise from groups of Arab youths loitering around outside the hotel;
Noise from fireworks;
Noise from drumming protests;
Noise from mosque;
Noise from builders yard/delivery trucks;
Even a quiet room is going to be noisy
Only stay here if you have a hearing difficulty.
Breakfast was ok, but it is included so can't complaint. Dinner was ok, but over priced for what you get.
Not a nice area, bit of a dump, rubbish tip.
Abusive, rude Arab locals, not nice.
Hotel staff were fine, feel sorry for the management as a lot of the negatives are outside of their control.

We looked on the site and thought this would be an ideal hotel to stay for our trip to Jerusalem; the reality is that the hotel is old and badly maintained and the view of the Old City doesn't compensate for the poor value for money.
When we checked in our friend found a "floater" in the toilet which would not flush. Much work on the toilet to no avail and she was then then given another room. We were both promised new rooms on the 5th floor with a view of the old city - this never materialised. Stayed an extra night and moved rooms again but check the photo of the view from the room. This room the toilet was broken and leaking and there wasn't room to sit on the loo properly. The electrics leave one speechless.
Breakfast was adequate but that is all. We didn't even try the dinner.
Some of the staff were friendly and helpfull to some degree but there seemed to be no liason between the morning and the afternoon staff; one promised new rooms with great views and then the other said no chance as overbooked and basically unhelpful and unfriendly.
The price was ostensibly good but value for money was very poor.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This is an older property in East Jerusalem which the owners are trying hard to maintain, not an easy task when most visitors want to stay in West Jerusalem. We requested a room with a "beautiful view", and the clerk, showing he'd read the request commented to me on arrival "We have you a room with a beautiful view". Beautiful it was: from our beds we could see the Dome of the Rock and other sights fo the Old City. This side of the building can be loud in the early morning due to street traffic and the muezzin from the almost next door mosque, so if you are a light sleeper, just ask for a quiet room and you'll be placed on another side. The staff gave the impression that they truly cared for each and every guest, they kept out luggage the last full day so we could see the city and not have to stay a last night, called taxis for us, offered information on tours (no pressure at all, just pointed out the brochures at the desk), let us use the internet in the lobby for free. This property loses customers from some taxi drivers refusing to go there (the Nesher Sherut service refused to pick us up, saying "We won't go there" , though it was merely a 10 minute straight walk down the Hill of Gethsemane to the Lion's Gate of the Old City), which is unfortunate, but part of the middle east, I suppose. The room was a little old, although so am I, and my expectations for a place at this price were perfectly met. The room was cleaned daily, fresh linens and soaps left, beds made, and the friendliness of the staff made each contact positive. If you are looking for a clean, no frills room at a great price, near the old city, and are willing to stay in an older property, your choice couldn't be better to stay at this propery where the owners really are trying, and appreciate each guest.
