the location of barkai studios so close to the old city and the rockefeller museum and, for me, uptown jerusalem, the markets, the stores on ben yehuda made this return visit an easy choice for me. and, when i reutnred form my walks, i could take my mug of tea to the garden, hang some laundry, and listen to jerusalem. (the photo is of the room i stay in.)

Room Tip: studio B, light, airy.

We have known of the Barkai Studios for more than 10 years and finally got a chance to stay there in April. The 3 apartments are cleverly and beautifully designed - the space is compact, and yet we comfortably fit our family of 5. The location is unbeatable, on the quaint, stone cobbled streets of Musrara, within a 5 minute walk of both the Old City and the center of West Jerusalem (great pizza and felafel all easily accessible). And Ruti is a delightful hostess, eager to accommodate and helpful with whatever you might need. We have been to Jerusalem on many occasions, and without a doubt Barkai Studios is our favorite place to stay.

Room Tip: If you are a couple (or with 1 small child) choose the garden studio.

Located between Damascus and Jaffa gates, Barkai Studio has a wonderful location to visit Jerusalem and a cosy, comfortable atmosphere. Its street is one of the most charming and quiet I've seen in the city. In the G Studio and I enjoyed having breakfast in the veranda overlooking the garden (after some recent snow storm) and Ruth Barkai is a great host, discrete but present in case of any need.

We stayed with Ruti and the Barkai Studios for 6 weeks from October to November 2013, and had a wonderful stay. We (my husband, me and our 8 months old boy) stayed in both the Garden Studio and in Studio B. Studio B is larger and gives a bit more moving space, with the bed located on a second floor over the sitting area. But the Garden Studio has the advantage of direct access to the garden, which was great for our little boy.

The garden offers great shade and a quiet respite from busy Jerusalem, and is surrounded by pedestrian streets, so the traffic noise is minimal. Here you can have quiet morning coffees (wheter in Studia A, B or G) and hear the church bells toll, the muezzin call the faithful to prayers.

The location is unbeatable, 5 minutes walk from both the Old City and Western Jerusalem (Jaffa Street) and perfect for us, who wanted to explore both the East and the West of the city. The Musrara neighbourhood is also quite unique in itself, being on the exact green line between East and West. The area has great old arab houses, established by wealthy christian arabs, later taken over by jews flocking to the newly established state of Israel and W Jerusalem.

Ruti is available at all times for any requests, and the apartments are cleaned and towels changed every week. And with the kitchenettes we were able to spend our 6 weeks on a very low budget, buying groceries at the local market and stores. Still, great resturantes are available for thos who desires it, both in the east and west.

This place is so good that Id like to keep it for my self, but obviously, that would be a selfish thing to do, so here you are!

Room Tip: I would not be too obsessed with getting the Garden Studio, they are all great options, and you have...

This was perfect place for us. We have spent 2 weeks in Jerusalem with 4 old guy.
Staying in the garden apartment was a perfect decision. After full day of walking, sometimes on desert - it was a nice place to come back and to rest to be ready for the next day. Quiet, 5 minutes to old city, in the center but like in the small village - where you can enjoy the some birds songs or observe small animals on the tree.
We love that place and we think to visit Jerusalem again. And to stay there.....

Room Tip: The garden apartment is located in the private garden. This garden is used by all people who stay...

We stayed here recently and we absolutely loved it. This was our first trip to Israel and we were not disappointed. She let's you know up front that it is not a luxury accommodation and we appreciated this. She emails out directions for guests to follow from the airport and I have to tell you having the address written in Hebrew was fortunate as our Nesher driver could not read English. For a family of five, who love to not be in a cramped hotel room, this was a great alternative. We stayed in studio B, just enough room for us because we were out most of the day so the kids did not have time to become irritated with one another. She had placed a portable bed in the studio for our use prior to our arrival and also provided bread and beverage. Ruthi was most informative and accomodating. She provided us with maps, directions, tips and pointers. The internet connection was more than adequate and believe me, we used it a lot....no complaints from the teenager and that says a lot. We particularly appreciated how close the studio was to the old city and everything else. It is a brisk ten minutes walk to the old city: New gate, Jaffa gate or Damascus gate. The train stops are also on your way to the old city. The upscale Mamilla mall is also close by. There are bakeries and grocery stores close by and there is a 24/7 supermarket on Shlomo Hamelech across from the Mamilla mall. We rented a car for two days and thanks to Ruthi we parked it in the neighborhood for two nights .......FREE!!! She called the taxi for our return trip to the airport and stayed with us - phone in hand - to make sure that we got on. Thanks Ruthi, hope to see you again soon.
