Perfect location. Nice staff. Looks more as an hotel than an hostel. Really cool rooftop. Breakfast is quite poor but definitely OK for the place. Not perfectly clean, but for the price it's definitely a good place to stay

Start with the positives. Good location, and helpful staff. The building and rooms? Well, the building is old and tired (did I say tired?), and our room was noisy (people arguing in the halls during the night), the doors were thin, the beds were too short (and I am of average height), the carpets and padded headboards were well worn and dirty looking. The temperature is centrally controlled and our room was too warm and stuffy (the central heating was on as it was cold outside). The bathroom was cold as the bathroom window could not be shut tight. According to a sign on the door, the hot water is turned on at 7:30 a.m. and we had to check out at that time so we avoided the cold shower. Breakfast is not available until 7:30 a.m., so we missed that.

Thoroughly impressed with this hostel conveniently located on Jaffa Rd, a mere 5 mind walk to the Jaffa Gate of the Old City.

Check-in is swift and easy, and I am given my key to a single private ensuite room in the annex building on the next block.

The room is better than expected.  Spacious, single yet very comfortable bed, aircon/heating, window to courtyard, compact bathroom with shower.

A simple complimentary breakfast is served in the main building from 7.30am and includes bread, boiled eggs, Israeli salad, and spreads. Coffee and tea is also available.

The best part though is that the hotel is clean and quiet. For around SGD 90 per night for a single ensuite room a few minutes to the Old City, you can't go wrong.

Thanks for the comfortable stay here. The place is well maintained. The breakfast is fresh and succulent (hummus, egg salad, veg salad, bread, yoghurt and the likes!). Their coffee is good as well.
The front desk staff staff is kind and helpful and this includes their breakfast staff who prepare this nice food!
The location is hard to beat of course. In walking distance of all major attraction such as old city and Jewish market. Very accessible to others.

I have mixed feelings.
We stayed in the guest house in private rooms with en-suite bathrooms (more properly called toilet/shower cabin). Although the rooms are really basic, the whole place feels filthy (probably because it’s old and had been neglected when it had served only as a hostel) and the cleaning could be much more thorough the whole establishment has an old fashioned charm.
The provided towels were old and stained (I felt lucky that I had brought my own) though it might have been washed and only a quarter roll of toilet paper awaited us so after seeing this I doubted that the room had been properly cleaned if it had been at all. The cabin they call bathroom urgently needs descaling, a complete renovation and a proper door so you can have at least privacy if you’re not alone in the room. It’s so unwelcoming that I took a shower only once during a 3 night stay!
Old wooden windows and balcony doors which don’t keep out the loud noise from the street and the wind.
Breakfast (very basic) is included in the price though you are lucky if you can find a place to sit when the house is crowded. In the kitchen and dining room max 25 people can be seated. We tried the breakfast on the first morning then we skipped it.
On the other hand, the location is invaluable and the staff is ultra friendly, polite and helpful (special thanks to them for dealing with our several modifications we had made prior to our arrival!!!). The price is reasonable to the location. WiFi is good. Complimentary instant coffee and water is provided in the shared kitchen. Rooftop terrace is great for chilling. The AC in the room looked brand new and didn’t have a bad odor when we turned it on.
The room rates are reasonable for the location. Lots of shops, eateries, cafes and bars nearby and most of them open also during sabbath.
Despite all the negatives I would return. It has a special atmosphere. Otherwise I wouldn’t return to such a spartan accommodation
