“It's the small things that make all the difference”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

We just stayed for 2 nights at the Little House in Rechavia. It's clean, tidy and quiet, even though we notice a number of young children in the breakfast area. It's very central. We could walk from there to the center of the new town, to the old city, to the German Colony.
But it's the small things that make it a nice place to stay -- getting us a taxi before Shabbat, fixing the air conditioner quickly, enabling us to bring in & eat our own lunch on Shabbat. Just being pleasant. They're not so big that you are just a room number. You are a guest -- which is also true for Little House in Bakaa.

The staff was very helpful, the location is very quiet and close to the old city (about 15 min walk) and to the manila center (about 10 min walk).
The breakfast was good but we expected a bit more..
Recommended to all whom wants to learn about the great city Jerusalem.

Room Tip: we stayed in the third floor and it has a nice balcony.

This is the second time we have stayed in the hotel (2 adults and 2 kids). It is a lot more affordable than the big hotels in the area which is why we chose it - it won't be as fancy or updated as some of the larger hotels but we know that going in and would rather spend less on a room that we are rarely in. This family room was two rooms that were joined together (you entered through one to get to the other). The room further back had a door to the rooftop. I often read on the rooftop and it was very peaceful as no one else was there. The rooms are a decent size and it is handy to have the two bathrooms for a family of four. Free wifi is available in the rooms and there is a computer in the lobby the guests can use if they need to. There was rarely a line to use the computer. Breakfast isn't as elaborate as in the larger hotels but it met our needs. The front desk staff were always helpful at giving us directions. The rooms were clean. The only drawback is that you could hear if people were talking on the rooftop that was adajcent to the room and you could hear noise from the building next door that had a celebration of some sort one evening that went late. It is easy to walk to the Old City from the hotel - probably a 20 minute walk to the walls of the Old City. It was also easy to walk to Ben Yehuda street on Saturday night - again probably a 20 minute walk. We will likely stay in this hotel again when we return to Jerusalem - largely due to the price.

The room was clean and quite comfortable, although there were 4 beds, there would not have been enough cupboard space for 4 guests.
The breakfast was good and the service friendly. The air conditioning unit made a noise which was annoying.

Stayed for 2 nights during the weekday in room 306.

Cons:
The rooms are a bit small. Our closet door could not fully open because it hit the rear end of the bed.
Flat screen TV too small (probably 25 inch or even less).
Some of the paint in the room has begun to peel off.
Our room faced Ibn Ezra street and there was frequent noise from buses running on that street. (ask for room facing the rear end of the building). Would be a good idea for management to install double pane windows.
The acoustics are bad since I could easily hear the TV sounds from adjacent rooms (woke me up once at 4 am).
The AC remote was not working and the light bulb in the bathroom was burnt (although, once I complained both were promptly changed).
The WiFi seldom works in the room.
The OJ during breakfast is not freshly squeezed (but is rather a squash based drink).
Pancakes are not served during breakfast (great disappointment).
The hotel does not offer a dinner service.

Pros:
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was very good (except for OJ). May not be as rich as those served in 5 star hotels, but the variety was more than satisfactory.
Breakfast is served next to a pleasant garden where you can sit and dine.
The room was exceptionally clean. The floor was wooden (easier to keep clean than carpets).
The (small) TV has a wide range of English and Hebrew channels (for kids as well).
Storage place in the room is satisfactory.
The location is quite good.

Given the reviews and the Hotel's displayed certificate of excellence from this site, I expected far more and was very disappointed. There was seldom anyone on the front desk to help, and the phone was never answered. Apparently they are experiencing problems with their switchboard, but both the number displayed on the phone in the room and that on their laminated cards in the room are WRONG. They know this but did not inform the residents. (Others were complaining too) We had to complain that the room and bathroom were not cleaned well at all on our first day; there was a power outage 3 out of our 4 mornings, two of which caught my friend in the bath in pitch darkness. Dangerous and unpleasant, especially as noone answered the phone (see above). Even worse if you are in the room on your own and this happens. The towels were thin, scratchy, inadequate, although we were told they were new. The staff were not very helpful about tourist site information or current events in Jerusalem. There were three light sockets in the reception area that were not functioning all the time we were there, and that gave the place a neglected and not-so-great aura. On the positive side the location is excellent, beds very comfortable, storage space in room more than adequate, we liked the public areas; the fridge in the room and 24 hour coffee and tea facility were great, breakfasts very good (although we were not happy to notice that the delicious pastries and breads were being handled bare-handed by the kitchen staff...). If some small changes are made, this would be a great place I would return to. As it was, it slightly tarnished my vacation.

I was recommended to this hotel based on price and location. I would recommend this place to people who are spending the majority of their day out and are only using the facility for sleeping.
The best feature of the hotel is its location. It is centrally located and walking distance to the old city and Ben yehudah street where there are many restaurants. Also conveniently located to the Great Synagogue. There are also many bus routes nearby on King George Street where you can get nearly anywhere.
As far as I am concerned, I would not call Little House in Rechavia a hotel, but more of a bed and breakfast. A hotel by definition to me has more amenities.
We had ordered the least expensive room and although adequate, for a couple nights, we were there 6 nights and lived out of our suitcases as there were no dressers in the room. There were two night tables where we were able to place a few things and a closet to hang a few others, but basically most of our belongings remained in the suitcase. I know there are larger rooms, but I am not certain if those have more furniture.
The breakfast was more than adequate, and the daily croissants were delicious. However, the breakfast was not as lavish as the breakfasts at many other Israeli hotels. There is an outside area with small tables where it is pleasant to enjoy your breakfast in the beautiful Jerusalem mornings.
The staff was helpful enough but I would not call them friendly. One major change that I would suggest to Little House would be to paint the reception area/lobby a brighter color and update the lighting. It is so dreary and poorly lit when you walk in. Also the reception desk is so high that you cannot see someone sitting at the reception desk unless you get very up close. At most hotels someone is usually standing to greet you.
Finally to confirm this is not a hotel, there was no one to assist us with our bags or even a luggage cart to load our luggage on. I was traveling with my elderly mother and therefore I had to bring 4 bags into the reception area (which is not in front of the building but the side), then load them individually in the elevator and the take them out of the elevator and then wheel them individually to our room.
Also rooftop terrace and back area of hotel would benefit from having some lounge chairs for relaxing.
Overall this is a clean, basic place in a good location.

Room Tip: AC unit was very quiet. Basic room did not have dressers, find out if others do. Twin Matress was...
