Owner description: Serving as a pilgrimage centre, this impressive church of the Carmelite Order houses a collection of antiques and its nearby monastery once served as a hospital for Napoleon’s soldiers.

Also known as Stella Maris. The setting and especially the Church are simply beautiful and peaceful -- very conducive to prayer and reflection. The famous statue of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is one of the most beautiful I have seen.

Behind the altar of the Church is the Cave of Elijah , where the prophet lived.

Don't miss the pyramid in the garden near the entrance to the Church -- the tomb of French soldiers who died during Napoleon's campaign.

We also had lunch at the restaurant -- prepared by the nuns, it was one of the best we had during our tour of the Holyland. The cafe adjoining the restaurant sells delicious coffee.

The small shop sells religious articles at reasonable prices -- including the Brown Scapular.

The views of Haifa harbour from the Monastery are spectacular.

Take time to enjoy this place -- too many people seem to rush through, which is a pity.

a small jewel of a monastery. something in its solid simplicity wins you over. one can't go into the light house, but tthe view over the Haifa bay is fantastic. there is also a decent restauraunt at the observation point.

A very interesting chapter in history, with a beautiful view and a nice walk. Excellent cafe on site, huge portions of really good food! Buses pile in, so time your visit carefully. Keep in mind how welcoming Israel is to all religions, and how respectful they are of the past history of other peoples. A beacon of openness in the Middle East.

Second best observation point in the city, right next to the bahai's garden top entrance. If you go to the left side of the monastery there's a very rudimentary pathway to go by foot all the way to the beach. I didn't go all the way, but they say it's a very romantic thing to do with a special one during sunset.
