Also known as Stella Maris. The setting and especially the Church are simply beautiful and peaceful -- very conducive to prayer and reflection. The famous statue of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is one of the most beautiful I have seen.
Behind the altar of the Church is the Cave of Elijah , where the prophet lived.
Don't miss the pyramid in the garden near the entrance to the Church -- the tomb of French soldiers who died during Napoleon's campaign.
We also had lunch at the restaurant -- prepared by the nuns, it was one of the best we had during our tour of the Holyland. The cafe adjoining the restaurant sells delicious coffee.
The small shop sells religious articles at reasonable prices -- including the Brown Scapular.
The views of Haifa harbour from the Monastery are spectacular.
Take time to enjoy this place -- too many people seem to rush through, which is a pity.
