Once upon a time my partner and I went on dawn walks on the beach, followed by coffee/breakfast at the only cafe that was open that early. Now there are many cafes that serve coffee and food at 7 a.m. but we have stuck to CafeIn because of their excellent coffee, perfect croissant right out of the oven, and it's come to feel like home. Every day they have the same patrons that come for their early coffee and breakfast so over the years we've become acquainted with both the owners, the cook, and the other diners. The owners are warm and friendly, the husband sits at a corner table counting change and reading the paper while his wife buzzes around, watering plants, fixing up tables, helping Mubarak, the funny barrista/cook, and chatting with the patrons. Mubarak knows what we want each time so after a good morning greeting we go sit down and await our treats. Lately I've been bringing the dog since we sit outside during the summer. They even have a bowl of water available for pets. Everyone is welcome. I really love this place.
I've been there later in the day and enjoyed salads, brunches, lunches, etc. The food is good, not extraordinary. The location, smack in the middle of Central Carmel with comfy covered outdoor seating winter and summer, is a perfect place to sit and people watch. Their indoor space is very warm and cozy, reminds my partner of Berkeley cafes in the 60s.
