First, it should be said that we are talking falafel here. The 5-star rating is not a comparison with a five-star restaurant. It simply represents what, to my taste, is a candidate for the Platonic falafel. And, that starts with the falafel itself. It is a light yet chewy, densely spiced fried ball (to see the staff scoop and drop them in the oil is an entertainment in itself) that is delicious and which blends with the array of accompaniements offered. I always ask for a layer of tahini sauce on top of the balls and then again after the pocket is filled. I also have them spice it up a notch with their house made harissa. The displayed additiions are always fresh and bright. The satisfaction level is indescribable. This is well made, honest to goodness street food of the gourmet order if that notion is not totally dissonant. A sample and warm greeting add to the over all most pleasant experience.

Falafel Ha'zkenim (The Elders) is famiy owned and carries a long tradition (and a secret recipe) of falafel making. The owners welcome you with a sample falafel and tehina and a welcoming smile. The falafel is excellent, always crisp and fresh and you can even get it in a tasty whole-wheat pitta. The place is small but there are stools for sitting and it's kept nice and clean. From there you can continue to strole around the Wadi Nissnass market with its many food and sweet stores.

Came to that place on basis of reviews from tripadviser and cannot agree with most of them. Place is poor to average. Falafel is good, but not best i eaten and does not have any special taste. Poor choice of sides being put in pita, they even don't have hummus.

Place is clean, but looks cheap, like regular falafel place in Israel and, compared to another pretty-looking falafel place just against their doors, place looks even worst.

so it ok to eat there, but don't expect for something special.
