“So beautiful it seemed like fantasy.”
Reviewed April 26, 2014

An unreal experience stepping into the water and having a coral reef teeming with life just below you. Snorkels, masks and life vests were available for a tiny rental fee, two courses to explore and free showers, change rooms and chairs available for all. The entire family was able to enjoy as much, or as little, of the reef as they wanted and there were decks out over the reef to watch from above. The water was crystal clear and the many varieties of rainbow-coloured fish continued to surprise the more time you spent in the water. Should not be missed!

“OK”

It was a bit choppy and it is actually more fun at the Heineken beach next door (which is free). We did like it but it was a bit short of a bar or other things to do, except snorkeling.

“Easy access to colorful coral fish”
Reviewed April 7, 2014

From the Underwater Marine Observatory Center, I walked to the Coral Reef Preserve. I brought my own snorkeling mask/tube and watershoes that I bought at Target in the Seattle. The watershoes worked out great...not so much the mask. It kept letting water in, no matter how tight I made it. I decided to stick close to the steps where you can enter the water. Plenty of colorful fish under the dock, so this worked out. I also went in the roped off shallow area, probably meant for kids -- but also had easy access to exotic (to me) fish. I brought a disposable waterproof camera and took photos of fish - very fun!
Besides snorkeling, this is a nice beach for hanging out.
If you don't have gear, they rent masks and snorkels - not fins. There are also locker rentals which are great if you're traveling solo and don't want to leave everything unattended while you go in the water.
