The Orchid Hotel and Resort Eilat
Ranked #20 of 61 Hotels in Eilat
Reviewed August 21, 2012

Hi all,
The hotel is something else.
The good:
Nice swimming pool with panoramic view deck
Friendly stuff
Comfortable rooms
Free WiFi
Club cars that take you around
The fact we had dinner at the hotel saved us a lot of time & headache
Night activity - in the first night we enjoyed a great acrobatic show.

The bad:
Location - hotel is a bit remote in the south beach. Not easy to get around if you don't have a car
Food is fair but can use an upgrade
The rooms are spread around the mountain. If you're located on top you have a nice view but you need to call the club car service (24/7) to take you around
The beach which is the best place in Eilat is not a walking distance. You do have free transportation but it is time limited

Overall we had a gread time.

Room Tip: If you like a good view take the "Shangrila rooms" or the 200 rooms. If you wish to avoid...

We were traveling throughout Israel and wanted to spend one night in Eilat. We checked online the big hotels located at the city center, but they were "too standard". Then we got lucky because we found the Orchid Resort, for about the same price of those big chain hotels.
The Orchid is everything promised and more. Were do I start???
- Location: Excellent, ocean front, facing the Red Sea and the Underwater Observatory (a must visit, just across the street). Away from the city center (a plus if you have a car) at the South Beach.
- Ambiance: Very different from a traditional hotel. The decoration is exotic (according to them, Thai style), yet modern, and very beautiful.
- Accommodations: The lodges are spread on the slope of a hill, all facing the Red Sea and separate from each other, what gives you a sense of privacy. The view is breathtaking. The lodge (we stayed on the type called Siam) is very spacious (even has a second level for people traveling with kids), with a large balcony facing the sea, very well furnished. The bathroom is modern and clean. There is a fridge in the room and free wifi. To get to and from the room, there is a fleet of golf carts driven by the hotel staff that take you up or down.
- Facilities: The swimming pool is big, with a separate area for kids. Around it, besides the usual chairs, there are beds. Yes, beds, with pillows and linen! A great idea to relax under the sun. Plenty of towels (at no charge), a bar (at charge, of course), and around it there are sofas, a large room with tables and chairs, ping pong table, etc. I read that there is a SPA, but did not visit it.
- Food: Breakfast was included, and what a breakfast! A huge room with tables against the walls, with all kinds of food one could imagine. We felt sorry for not having enough appetite to sample a little bit of everything. You will have to watch your calories...
- Service: The hotel was very busy, so the front desk was a mess. It took us a while to check-in. Check-out was fast. In general, service was average for Israel (where services at hotels are a little bit shaky).
- Value for the price: It was worth every penny.

The only con significant enough to mention is that because of our travel plans we could not stay there at least for one week :-)

Room Tip: I believe the lodges at the top of the hill, or near the top, have a better view. There are some acc...

If u are planing on booking this hotel, think again. The management Is the worst you ever encountered, the food is horrible, the rooms are dirty and old , . I have 4 little children and I booked two connecting rooms, they gave two separate rooms and they wanted my children to walk to me out side if they wake up. They didn't even compensate us for that stay. We were suppose to stay 5 nights and ended up for only one. Then they transferred us to their sister location the orchid reef, also bad management but nice and clean rooms.

Room Tip: Order the shangrila rooms

when I read the previous reviews I was really worried about my chouse, but at the end I was happy I'd choosen this hotel.
sure, the hotel is not new, they have a very outstanding place and the managmnet could turn this hotel in a very stylish and expensive hotel, indeed they do nothing to improve it.
the hotel is spread on the hill, with golf car services that bring you in your room if you need it.
I had a room on on the hill, I think room 813. the room was big, with a king size bed and a sitting area with lcd tv. you see that the room is old, but you see also that when it was build it was very expensive. noe everything is old. you have an empty minibar, safety box, coffee and tea maker, airdryer and very good toilet products (dead sea products).
the wifi is REALLY BAD in the room, it did't work most of the time, and when it worked it was a mess!
the rooms are in blocks with 2 floors, you have a deck with sea view, i had a connectubg room, even if i had requested a NOn connecting room.
the air conditioning was really noisy, but this helped to not hear anything else from the other rooms, there are some custruction site building a new wing, but you hear nothing with ariconditioning (the noise is constant, so at the end you get used to it!).
the hotel is outside eilat, but this what we were looking for, we had the car to go to the noisy tel aviv cirty center.
indeed, the beach we have access were both ... BAD. the one in the right was dirty and the one n the left was more clean, but the access to the sea was anyway hard. take with you some shoes to go in the sea.
the service indeed is nothing special, but probably I was not hurgry just because I knew from previous reviews:
- when I booked I specifically asked a non connecting room, I had a connecting room
- I wrote an email asking if they provided beach towels... they never reply to me
- at the check in they asekd to pay the full stay, without seeing the room
- when we arrived... we were not able to unlock the room with the key card, we phoned the reception, they send a man to fix it... and at the end we were provided with "traditional" keys because the card was not working
- one day we came back from the beach and we had no towels in the room, phoned to the reception and they send it right away
- the houseking EVERY MORNING asked us when she can came to clean the room, even was clear that we were not ready to leave it:

the breakfast was good, until 11 am. sitting outside in the pool, with a lot of things. the pool area was very nice, with very comfy bed!

at the end, if you are looking to a clean room, you are not looking for a 5 star treatment, but you like to have a simple and beautifl place out of the noise of eilat city center, this is for you.
otherwise, look for something else.

the beds are great- very comprfertable
you get around the hotel in small golfcarts that arrive to order. the pool is a nice size and there is great view from every room.
it feels like you'r in Tailand.
the only thing that is not great is the food- not enough selection in my taste but the food is pretty good.
