“A large, but very good hotel, centrally located”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

The Dan Eilat is a large, clean and airy property on the boardwalk offering a variety of amenities and programs including daily activities for adults and kids, outdoor pools, jacuzzi, a small but reasonable gym, squash courts with rental equipment, ping pong, and a spa. Internet can be slow and is available for free in certain parts of the hotel. There is a charge for use in the rooms. Most of the rooms face the sea; those on the upper floors are spacious, comfortable and have a splendid view. Service is mostly excellent but can be variable from the folks at reception to those who dispense towels to those who work in the restaurant. Breakfasts are plentiful and delicious but the quality of the dinners varied and was mediocre at best given the reputation of this hotel. Wednesday night was a huge disappointment and although Friday night's buffet was more acceptable, the dining room was packed with families and rowdy children. All in all a very good, rather pricey option for a hotel in Eilat.

Dear Mayatravels,
Thank you for your thorough and detailed review; it is through feedback such as this that we are able to monitor and develop our service delivery.
Throughout the year, as noted, there are many families with young children staying with us. Whilst it is of course vital for us to cater for all our guests, we are currently exploring options to be able to offer a quieter dining area for those guests requiring such. Thank you for highlighting your concerns; all have been forwarded to the responsible managers for the immediate attention. We were delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to seeing you among our future guests.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

I am not a big fan of large hotels. I feel a bit lost in them, they are too noisy and anonymous. This being said the Dan in Eilat has a lot going for it. Almost all the rooms look out at the sea except a few on the lower floors ( odd number x39-50) – Mine 447 faced a parking lot. Being that as it may, the service was excellent . We called for a technician to fix a light and here was there in under 10 minutes and provided a wealth of information as to why the hotel uses halogen lights rather than LED’s.

The amenities are larger than most and the service people had no problem bring my wife more lotion since she has dry skin. More important the second day they actually left her two bottles instead of one - oversight or thoughtfulness - I would like to believe the latter.

The entire hotel is spotless and there are two lobbies. I preferred the one on the second floor which was quieter. Both have free internet access while if you want to use internet in your room you will have to pay for the privilege. The pool was heated to 27 degrees and there plenty of places around the pool to rest. There are three layers of grass and grounds near the pool which means that if you don’t mind not sitting poolside there are lots of places to stretch out . The higher levels also are quieter. It seems that most hotels , even good ones , play their “ poolside music” for the hearing impaired.

Now we come to the food . In a word, excellent. It is rare that I eat fish in a hotel since for the most part it was cooked an hour ago ( if you are lucky) and by the time you eat it , well let’s say that there is distinct semblance to an old sandal. We were pleasantly surprised that the fish was actually better than the meat. We also enjoyed the” wine steward” although his was quite young he did have a fair knowledge in wines and the price 120 NIS for an excellent bottle of Galilee Alon is not a bad price for a restaurant.

But the best was dessert. No Joke – parave desserts is usually the bane of good kosher restaurants but these people knew what they were doing. There was a raisin chocolate chip oatmeal cookie that I found hard to stop eating and had resort to filling a napkin and taking it with me . My wife who is no mean dessert maker herself pronounce the chocolate mouse the best she ever ate and succeeded in getting the recipe and another from the chef as well as passing on a few ideas of her own .
One smudge on this excellent hotel is a new policy which goes into effect January 2013 and that is the filled mini bar. As in the Royal Beach and the Bereishit hotel the mini bar comes closed and filled. It does not allow you to put anything inside without triggering an automatic payment. The manager did tell me that for 9 NIS a day you can deactivate it (Berishit wanted 30) but if you have milk for a baby or medications which need refrigeration you can talk to the management or room service. To be quite frank when someone is paying so much money for a good 5* hotel it makes no public relations sense to ask for an additional 9 NIS -

Dear Elib_travels,
We appreciate the effort it took to share your experiences with us and happy that you did; thank you so much, we all really enjoyed reading it.
Its important to us at Dan Eilat that guests are given individual care in regards to the amenities that offer. We do everything in our power to make you feel at home. The quality of the pastries and other confections offered at the Food Fair restaurant has always been well regarded, thank you for noticing. All of our confections are made in-house by our talented pâtissiers so we will ensure they receive your commendations. Our guests are more than welcome to ask how our food is prepared and we are always happy to share our recipes.
As for the minor blemish in regards to the mini bar, your concerns have been given to the responsible parties for their consideration. It was a pleasure to read your review and we look forward to seeing you return among our future guests.

We came back from a weekend (Thursday till Saturday) at the Dan hotel in Eilat. We traveled with 3 kids (ages: 10, 8 and 6 years old).
We found the hotel clean and well maintained but the overall architecture outdated and the design was not updated since the 80`s.

The Staff was kind and accommodating, and we even got a late check out without being charged extra.
We stayed in two connected rooms. Our room was a 'terrace room' with a beautiful balcony and stunning view. Our kids got a standard room. Both rooms were clean, but again the furniture, setting up and colors were old fashioned and therefore gave a crowded feeling.

During our stay, our kids visited the mini-club which was very well equipped and tidy. In addition, our kids loved the main pool, with the streams and the water slide. We (the adults) found the swimming pool area a bit crowded.

Room Tip: Take a higher floor and get a stunning view. If you are more than 3 people take two connected rooms...

Dear Tamara K,
Thank you for sharing your experiences from here at the Dan Eilat with the TripAdvisor community. It is through guest feedback such as this that we are able to monitor and develop our service delivery.
We are delighted that your children enjoyed the sepcialized facilities catering for them. As noticed, there are amenities at the hotel for all ages. Whilst the main pool area is specially designed for children to enjoy, it is sometimes difficult for the adults to find their peace. The second, quieter pool towards the back beach area is sometimes more ameanable for adults; it is a shame that this was not highlgihted to you at the time.
Every effort is made to ensure the highest levels of cleanliness and housekeeping throughout the hotel, so it is always a pride when this is noticed; we will be sure to pass on your commendation where it is due, thank you.
In response to yours and some other recent guest comments, a refurbishment is in the planning process and we hope to have a more modernized, fresher look for your next visit.
Looking forward to the opportunity to welcome you back soon,

Best Regards,

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2012

We spent 2 nights over Hanukkah and booked a few rooms for the whole family. Overall an OK experience but I expected much more from Dan.
The hotel décor is very dated, with lots of wear and tear in all hotel public areas and rooms. It needs to be renovated. Service is mediocre and following are the details:
Restaurant:
- Food was very good. Great breakfast and dinner.
- Service in the restaurant needs major improvement. We needed to ask for coffee and water every time and used plates were not taken away from the table – we had to take care of it ourselves and put them somewhere else. Service was very inattentive and not proactive.
Rooms:
- Clean but dated. Nice views. Problems with shower heads that could not be rotated and spilled water all over the bathroom floor.
Other:
- When I asked for a US electrical adaptor, I was required to sign a deposit form for 250 NIS in case they do not get it back. Really Dan Eilat? Needless to say – I left it with them. In a 5 start hotel, this should be a service with no deposit and surly not such a high deposit for a simple adaptor.
- When I asked for an additional towel in the pool, the pool attendant said she cannot dispense additional towel because we already took the number of towels allowed based on the number of people in the room. Again – seriously Dan Eilat?

Considering that this is a 5* hotel, the points above and the price we paid per night (about $450 a night for a standard room, including breakfast & dinner), the value the customer recieves is low. I will probably not be back anytime soon.

Dear WorldCritic68,
Your detailed review is greatly appreciated since it gives us a better insight on areas of development in service delivery; thank you for taking the time to post.
Every effort is made to ensure the highest levels of guest experience and service throughout the hotel, so we are always very sorry to hear when a guest feels that we have fallen short. Whilst it comes a little late to rectify for you on this occasion, I can assure you your comments have been taken on board and directed to management for immediate attention, thank you for highlighting this to us.

Further to yours, and a few others, comments, the hotel will begin refurbishments work this year to freshen the facilities; we do hope you'll return to notice the differences made.
With regards to the deposit required for borrowing adaptors from our concierge, this was a measure to lower the loss from loaning these items to guests; this is standard for the majority of hotels in the area, we are sorry if this did not suit your expectations.
We hope that when you return to Eilat, that you give us another opportunity to show you the improvements that we have made, please feel free to contact me directly prior to your next stay on DE-GR.LimorA@danhotels.co.il
