Reviewed January 6, 2013

Our family with 2 boys (ages 2 and 4) stayed here for 3 nights in January of 2013. The rooms were nice and clean. We stayed in a family room so it had a small living room with 2 twin bed and a fold out chair, along with a kitchenette area with a fridge, microwave, hotpot, and basic dishes. The bedroom had two twin beds pushed together. There was a TV in the bedroom and living room with plenty of English channels. Outside was a nice porch area with a table and chairs, as well as grassy areas for the kids to run around and hammocks to relax in. In addition there is a playground suitable for kids ages 4+ and an animal farm that's open on weekends. The breakfast was the same every day but filling and good.

The best part was that we could walk across the parking lot to use the facilities at Sunrise Resort next door. They have an indoor heated pool and an outdoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, spa, a kids room with playstation, and other activities during the days. We were giving a temporary arm band that showed we were from the Kibbutz. We weren't supposed to get free drinks or food but the first day we didn't know that so the kids got a few drinks for free.

The location is great if you have a car. Only about 5-7 minutes drive to the Eilat Mall where we ate lunch at the food court and the kids played at an indoor play place.

The only negative was the small bathrooms with a shower where you have to squeegie the floors after you shower. And also limited internet access -- you have to go to the reception area and it was really slow there. But the rest was great! We would definitely return.

We tried to book this online to stay with our 5 month old, but whenever we chose any online booking options with kids it told us that no rooms were available. We contacted the hotel directly and they sorted out the booking for us.

We arrived late on Friday night, so they told us in advance which room we would have and left the key in there. I appreciate flexibility like that. The room was a good size, clean, with a comfy bed, and a cot for our little one.

The food was the typical Israeli Kosher affair, but done to a higher standard than I've had at larger hotels.

This place is not in Eilat proper. You really need a car, but there is ample parking on site. It is the fact that this is out of town that is nice, in the evenings you can sit on the grass and look at the stars. It is quiet and peaceful. The plants are well cared for and all labelled with their botanical names.

We got free entry to the nearby Timna park because we stayed more than 2 nights.

The pools are good, especially the indoor one. They are actually on the site of the adjacent "Sunrise Club" but you get free entry, and we felt we had best of both worlds using the pools of the noisier place and staying in the quiet place.

On the downside. 1. The drains in our room (number 29) failed on 3 consecutive days. By failed i mean at best the shower would not drain and at worst what appeared to be fecal matter came out of the shower when you flushed the toilet. Each time we reported it they sent someone quickly (within 30 mins) but it's not on for it to happen 3 times. In the end we got a key for another room and showered there. 2. The air-conditioning in our room had no remote control. It looked likea standard unit with IR sensor on the front and a holder for the remote on the wall, but there was no remote. When we asked for one at reception we were told that "they were on a system" so we could only turn them on and off at the wall, which basically meant sleeping with an icey cold wind blowing down on you, or dealing with stuffy heat. I have an engineering degree and work in IT and I am pretty sure that the statement about the aircon being on a system was rubbish. 3. because the aircon was unsuitable we slept with the windows open, however the mesh that is supposed to keep the insects out was not properly fitted and there was a big gap along the edge of the frame through which we think some visitors got in. certainly I have several bites to prove it.

The rooms were otherwise very clean, but because of 1. above I have rated cleanliness a 2/5

I hope that the Kibbutz read this and address my concerns. We would go back, but they need to work on a few things.

We stayed here in April 2012. We were two families with 8 children aged 7-17. We rented 3 apartments. The rooms are comfortable and spacious although not luxurious and there are plenty of grassy areas and places for the kids to play and get fresh air outdoors. The swimming pools are very conveniently located. The outdoor pool was cold and the indoor pool rather crowded given the school holidays. Regarding the location, it is fairly close to Eilat but not in the city. However, this is true of many hotels in Eilat. By car it is a 5 minute drive to central Eilat. A taxi ride is about 20 shekels (about $6). Definitely worth it for the quiet.

Overview

Service is efficient and polite and the rooms are adequate and comfortable. It’s clean, homely, quiet and set in pleasant surroundings with gardens and well back from the highway.

But the location could be a problem for some.

Location

It’s important to note that the Kibbutz Eilot Hotel is not in Eilat proper. It’s about 6km from the city centre and you can forget about walking as the only route into town is via the highway, which you couldn’t safely walk along. So if you don’t have your own car, it will cost you between 25-30 shekels to get to the city and the same to get back. Plus you will need to phone for a taxi. We spent on average about 100 shekels a day on cabs to and from Eilat Centre, as we didn’t have our own car.

You should also note that the Kibbutz Eilot Hotel and the next-door Sunrise Club Resort Hotel are two separate entities albeit fairly close to one another. So if taking a taxi from Eilat Central Bus Station to the kibbutz hotel for the first time you should tell the driver to drop you at “Kibbutz Eilot Reception” because otherwise he may drop you at the entrance to the Sunrise Resort and you’ll have to trek across a dusty car park with your luggage and up a flight of stairs to get to the kibbutz hotel.

Rooms

Rooms are spotlessly clean, comfortable and adequate with tiled floors and simple furniture all on ground level – no high rise here! Beds were satisfactory and we slept well. There’s ample shelf storage in the cupboard but minimal hanging space. Only two hangars were supplied so we had to ask for more and they generously gave us another two!

There was no outlook. We had room 30, one minute walk to reception.

Nice big flat-panel TV on the wall with a good range of channels.

Bathroom

Small with virtually no storage and only a shower (no bath) although you won’t need one in this hot and humid climate.

Internet

There is a single computer available at reception with internet access, which you can use for free.

Breakfast

There’s a decent selection of salads, cheeses, rolls etc. The dining room is huge as it’s also the dining room for the kibbutz and it’s about a 10-minute walk from reception. You won’t leave here hungry. But note though that dinner is only served here on a Fri night so unless you bring food into your room, at least for meals you’ll need to go into Eilat.

Service

Staff are helpful, friendly and polite. They just couldn’t be nicer and will go out of their way to make you feel at home and look after your every request to the best of their ability. And they all speak fluent English. (And just as a general comment: We never had a problem with language in Israel even though we don’t speak Hebrew, as just about everyone in the hospitality and tourism industries speak at least passable English.)

Amenities

Next door to the kibbutz hotel is the swish Sunrise Club Resort Hotel. I’m not sure what the relationship is between the kibbutz and the resort but guests at the kibbutz hotel can use the facilities at the resort and these include a large outdoor swimming pool, an indoor pool, gym, spa and sauna.

On the negative side

• There are no clothes washing facilities. But as a special favour, the staff let us throw our washing in with the rest of the members and staff but charged us a hefty 70 shekels for the pleasure. Given the distance from town, a little laundromat here would be useful. There is a small convenience store with limited opening house selling basic groceries and food.

• There’s no lock-up safe in the rooms, although the staff told us that said it wasn’t necessary as security is not a problem and that we could leave valuables at reception if we wanted. In the result I left my valuables in the room unlocked and nothing was stolen but I would have felt happier if there was a safe.

• And as mentioned, the location is not convenient to Eilat unless you have your own car. Or you don’t mind spending about 50 shekels for a round trip to the city and back.

Best and worst

The best features are the quiet and pretty surroundings. Having the use of the facilities at the next door resort is a big plus too. The worst feature is the distance from Eilat.

Summary

Overall, rooms are nice, the surroundings are pleasant, the staff are polite and the breakfasts are filling. So it’s not a bad place to spend a few relaxing days if you want to be near Eilat but wish to avoid the hustle and bustle of the town centre.

Room Tip: Being near to reception is a help.

If you are looking for a quite place just outside Eilat this is good place. It is very green and there is a Minizoo with activities for kids on Saturday. It is about 3 km from the Center. The breakfast is nice Israeli style (Salads, eggs etc.). What we enjoyed a lot was Friday night dinner. It was a nice buffet. Other days there is no dinner. The apartments are nice with a terrace, separate bedroom (at least our had), sink and water heater but no kitchen.

We chose Eilot kibboutz based on distance to the border, and we were not disappointed, it's very close (like 1min by car), which makes it the perfect spot for a few days to Petra: you can go by car to the border, park it there (rental cars can't cross), cross and get a taxi to Petra for 110JD return journey.
The room was correct, clean, the bathroom was not fantastic but still ok, there is a big parking, and breakfast is really good.

We stayed in a pleasant little bungalow in a fragrant garden environment. The atmosphere, especially at the communal cafeteria / restaurant, is very friendly and food, especially lunch and dinner, is very good. Staff were friendly and helpful and we were glad to escape from the hustle and bustle of Eilat in the evenings. It feels a lot friendlier than the hotel towers downtown.

The kibbuz is located at 3 km or so from the seaside, so getting there and away is most convenient if you have a rental car (as we did).

Free WLAN.
