“Strange, better to visit than stay!”
Reviewed April 28, 2012

Hands down, the hotel has stunning common areas, the pool areas, the indoor atrium restaurant, the basement bar, the gardens. Wow wow wow! Come and visit the hotel, for dinner, pre or post dinner drinks. We had a lot of fun here!

However, the hotel is a series of interconnected buildings. We scored a room in the old section, it took us literally 10 minutes to walk to our room from the lobby, involved going up one set of lifts and then down another, we got lost several times for 15-20 minutes trying to find our room. It was also very secluded, at the end of a long hallway, and was a ground floor room and we felt very unsafe because glass floor-to-celing doors that opened to the balcony did NOT lock!! We had security come, they couldn't lock it, shrugged their shoulders and said they were fully booked for the night.

Room itself was also a little grungey, mould on the ceilings in the bathroom, furniture felt very old, odd markings on the wall, ugh... not well kept!

I'd recommend coming here for a meal or desert or drinks, but not staying here!

The hotel is nice but you can easily get lost while looking for your room.Wireless internet is extra and quite expensive. Location is fine but you need to take a taxi in order to go to the center of the town.

The hotel was full of contradictions. Beautiful outside and common areas. However, rooms were dated and small. While we had a nice balcony, we also got stuck w twin beds. Perhaps the rooms in the main building were better, as our group were all housed in a biulding behind the main building It felt as if were did not rate staying in the "nice" part of the hotel. We tried to up- grade our room (and pay for it) but were told nothing was available bathroom was better than average. The food, which was buffet stlye due to the fact that we were with a tour group, was also better than average. I recommend verifying your room accommodations before you get there if possible.

The hotel is in a beautiful building which was used as a school and even a prison at one point.
Pluses: lovely building. Friendly staff. Sizeable rooms. Quiet. Yummy breakfast buffet. Good value- the same hotel in Jerusalem would be 3-5 times the price! Amusing bar with karaoke! Has pool and I think gym too.

Negatives:
It's a bit of a maze to navigate, but that's fine once you get used to it. Service in cafe lobby is slow. Location is central, but not close to manger square, you still need to spend another $4-5 on taxis. No free wifi.

Tips:
-be sure to ask for room that has always been non-smoking
-lobby cafe gives 30 min free wifi if you order something.
-there is a Banksy graffiti right in front of hotel, plus interesting graffiti on nearby wall surrounding Rachel's tomb
-great pastry shop about a 5min walk to right when leaving hotel.

My friend has a term she uses "TIA," meaning "time in Africa." She started using the term after visits to Burundi, Rwanda and Zimbabwe and seeing that the US definition of "time" and the African version were very different. A bus coming at 5:00 in the US means a bus coming at 5:00. A bus coming at 5:00 during her travels she found to mean anytime between 4:00 and 7:00. I put this in to give a little context on the hotel. If I were to travel straight from the US to the Jacir, check in and write a review I think my review would be picky about the hotel. However, in my case, I arrived there after quite a few days traveling around the region and saw the hotel as a bit of an oasis. It is a large, impressive, beautiful building that I heard had been a private residence at one point. It has conference facilities and sprawls over a large land area. Previous posters are correct in saying that it is a bit confusing to get around. I found that cutting through the interior courtyard always helped me find my way....rather than attempting to roam the many hallways. The staff at the hotel were very kind and helpful. That was my impression of Bethlehem in general....everyone we met was happy and more than willing to chat and offer advice. The hotel has a convenient ATM in the lobby that dispenses dollars or shekels. There is a nice large seating area off the reception, with heat lamps. Internet service is $5 for 30 mins (which I thought was steep) but in this area, with the purchase of a beverage, one could get 30-60 mins of free internet. There is also a bar that serves a full list of cocktails and wines. We closed it many nights, and they were more than willing to stay until we left. A glass of red wine from the region, some shisha and a bowl of nuts always topped off our day of touring. Our room was a tad bit faded, but the bathroom was large and clean. It had a deep tub, shower, bidet and a wide sink area. The beds were comfy with very clean sheets. We had two large closets and a room safe. I would return there on my next visit.

Stayed here for five nights with friends on a tour. Hotel room was exceptionally clean, staff were attentive and helpful. Buffet food was good. Internet service available for a charge. Bathroom was clean and had charming double doors. There were two closets. Window overlooked the back lot. Pool was nice. Layout is confusing - you can lose your way if you're not careful. Neighborhood is ok - would not go out wandering solo. Security is excellent. Since my room faced the town, I heard the mezzin's call every morning at 4:55 am - but by the fourth night, I slept through it. Overall, would stay here again.
