My family of three just returned home from a four week vacation, including one week in Turkey. Of all the places we ate at during our vacation, this was clearly our favorite. It has everything, food, service, and location.
For those of you that have been to Turkey you will know what I mean when I say that the people working at the restaurants can be aggressive (in a nice, pleasant way) when trying to convince you to eat there. As a result, after awhile you start to ignore them and just keep walking. But, when approached by the owner of Ejder for some reason I stopped and listened to him. He was extremely nice (a trait I found common in Turkey), and told me that his wife was the cook and that their dishes were different because they were from eastern Turkey. He also showed me copies of the other two very positive reviews here on tripadvisor (he had made photocopies of them). I was convinced and agreed to return later that evening with my family.
The food was wonderful. The waiter, who I believe was the owner's son, recommend an appetizer plate consisting various items which were all excellent. I then had the mixed grill and my wife and daughter each had chicken kebabs. There were a number of other items on the menu, but we saw these dishes on the table next to ours and they looked so good that we really did not look at the rest of the menu. The chicken kebabs included huge pieces of tasty, perfectly cooked chicken and all of the different meats included as part of the mixed grill were likewise delicious. I cannot comment on the desserts because the entree portions were so large that we did not have room for dessert.
The service was excellent, very attentive and extremely friendly. Generally speaking, I have never been to country with people as friendly and helpful as those in Turkey. The owners and employees of Ejder carry this friendliness and helpfulness to an extreme that can perhaps be matched, but not surpassed.
The location was beautiful. We ate outside where we had a view of the beautiful old Roman Aqueduct. It was a great experience.
I cannot recommend Ejder highly enough. As much as I enjoyed Ephesus, if and when we return to Selcuk I know that what I will look forward to the most will be another dinner at Ejder.
