“Everything it was hyped to be”

It's a larger area than we realized and was quite hot and crowded but wouldn't change it for the world. I was blown away to get a feeling of an entire city, trying to imagine people walking by in the old days. If you like history, it doesn't get any better. If you don't, could be grueling.

Tip: Go to the "Upper gate" and walk downhill to the dolmus/taxi area.

“Really great antique city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2014 via mobile

We took a half days trip from Bodrum during our stay. It took about two hours to drive. At Efes we organized our own guide from just outside the entrance. All of us thought it was a fantastic destination. The ruins have been restored and are in pretty good shape. Great to have your own guide! Go early in the morning and be there 08 when they open up. It gets really hot around noon!

“Simply the best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2014

As sights around goes this is the best! Only someone very uninterested in the ancient history of the world will find this a waste of time. It is in fact magnificent!

This was my fourth visit to Ephesus and the third in a row. This year I spent time looking at the milestones on the road between the exit and the ancient road to the harbour. I also arrived early, beating the cruise ships to the tours and had almost "me-time" at the library. If you can try go come either early or late.

By mindful that Turkish lira is the currency to pay. If you come with a child, check if children are free of charge. It is ok to come on your own, withoyt a guide. You can buy a guidebook or rent digital information.

Toilets are nice and clean, from bottom entrance, almost wheel chair accessible.

Special treat this time was that the marble street between the library and the amphi theatre was open for visitors. First time ever!

“Great day but come prepared! And research the tour company first!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2014

Me and my other half went here for the day and booked it through Saba Tours (Saba Turizm) in Altinkum. DO NOT book any trips with them!!!
We booked this and a day trip to Altinkum aqua park.
On this trip they were half hour late picking us up, then to be taken to a Turkish ceramics factory, which to be honest was really good, then we went to a mosque and viewed the castle (from the car) then after we went to the ancient city.
The ancient city was really good, but there is no shade and with a guide takes about 2 and half hours to walk round. Which at mid-day isnt the best idea, they also dont sell drinks or have toilets until the end of the tour, we was told they didnt at all, so we quickly run out of water and my boyfriend got sunstroke because of this.
After visiting Ephesus we was taken to a jewelry shop, a Turkish delight shop and another shop, which was frustrating as all shops were over priced (by 2/3 times compared to food on the market), and we wasn't told these stops would be made when we booked the tour!!
The guide herself was really nice and friendly, so I'm not sure if she was told by the company that these stops had to be made, but after walking around for almost 3 hours in the sun the last thing you want to do is shop for stuff you dont even want!

All in all, Ephesus is a must do, the history here is amazing, and having a guide was better as they have so much more information then the signs give, but take lots and lots of water, a hat, and wear comfy shoes!
And dont book through Saba tours!!

“Wow”

This is the reason i am coming back to Turkey again. This is a giant jigsaw puzzle. Use a travel guide to get the most out of it. There are shops at the exit. I noticed that only one was run by women. The rest all men. I supported the womens store and bought an adorable silk crewel pillow for 20e
