Much bigger than I anticipated, this was certainly a highlight. As you walk through the ancient ruins of Ephesus, you literally step back in time and see how people use to live. We enjoyed the library, posh roman terrace houses, commercial market, outdoor theatre and visiting the ancient public toilets! Some buildings are so well preserved, you can step inside and walk around. Archeologists were still excavating when we visited - testament to Turkey's rich history. I think this is a must see for anyone who appreciates history. I also highly recommend hiring a good tour guide to enhance overall the experience.

Really if you read all the other reviews there is not much I can add to you. Just make plans to visit this place. Don't pass it up. Went October 2011

Many sites of Roman antiquity may blend together, but Ephesus (Efes for short) is something special. We went in a tour group, and that was helpful as there isn't much information posted, but it is still a great site to walk around and soak up the history.

There was a short dramatic recreation of Cleo and Mark Antony entering the city from where the port used to be, complete with vestal virgins and fire breathers.

The Terrace Houses are part of an archeological excavation, highlighting the houses of the rich. These ancient mansions rival modern wealthy residences, complete with hot water, frescoes, atriums and rooms with views.  Don't miss seeing them as part of your tour.

A good pair of walking shoes is a must, as there is a bit of walking involved, over cobbled surfaces and many steps to go up if you go to the Terrace houses.  Another tip is to start at the top carpark so that you walk downhill towards the great Library of Celsus and the amphitheater. Be sure to greet the Ephesian cats.

This place has so much history and remnants of ancient times, and yet is not as we'll known. Get yourself there if you are interested in seeing a town that is thousands of years old, ancient temples and a history that rivals anything you have seen.

This was an amazing place to visit. It is an incredible, active, huge archaeological site. You enter at the uphill end and walk down toward the city center. Plan to walk over a mile, but it is a pretty easy walk. We had a tour guide and that helped to explain what we saw. Because we were with a tour, we had a limited time. I would recommend at least two hours. The most impressive things to see are the Library of Celsius and the Theater. Ephesus is a great place for some really good photography, by the way. It is easy to imagine the apostle Paul wandering around here and teaching in the market place and the theater. While the Temple of Diana is pretty much gone, the theater where the riot (remember "Great is Diana of the Ephesians?") occurred is still there. Other BIblical characters who spent time in Ephesus include Peter, John and Mary. This is a must-see place!
