My visit to Ephesus was part of a four-day stay in the village of Sirince above Selcuk. It's possible to travel to Ephesus by foot from Selcuk. The walk is pleasant and allows you to avoid the hustle and bustle of the buses- at least for a while. As a retired social studies teacher who taught about ancient cultures for half of my career, I felt this was a true gem and not to be missed. I would suggest wearing shoes with good treads as so much of the stone can be a bit slippery. Tune out the crowds and imagine yourself living in this marvelous city.

A totally wonderful place, go early in the day as it gets very hot and very busy Sensible shoes are a must, take your own water. We walked from the bottom to the top and back down again, so much to see..

What a wonderful treat to be able to visit this ancient city -- and don't be intimidated by the Terrace Houses: the steps are very manageable and it's so exciting to watch a live archeological dig in process.

We downloaded the Rick Steves audioguide and used this to visit the site. This allowed us to proceed at our own pace, dodge the mass tour groups and pull up a stone while Rick described the sights. We highly recommend this site and the Rick Steves audioguide.

Ephesus (Efes) is very beautiful place. It's a place of huge ancient Greek and later Roman history and a lot of monuments and ruins are well preserved. When you visit it on sunny day, you will have incredible pictures. I like the sand color of ruins combined with the blue sky. We visited Ephesus during our bigger trip from Istanbul to Antalya and we were at the organized trip by bus. So I don't know much about how to get there. But I think it won't be any problem because this place is well known. You can see many interesting things like the Library of Celsus (amazing architecture!), ancient public toilets, ancient street, temples, amphitheater, bath complexes... a lot to see. It's not a long walk but you need good shoes and mind your steps. Ephesus is near town Selcuk in Izmir region and you can combine this trip with village Sirince. You will like it. Later you can try Turkish beer called Efes (but it's nothing special, I just liked the name). You can visit also the ruins of Artemision (the Temple of Artemis, one of the 7 World Wonders) but nothing much left there.
