“Excellent ruins”
Reviewed August 21, 2014

These are some very interesting ruins and you get a great panoramic view of the surrounding area. The brick foundations and walls have been partially reconstructed but it is mostly ruins. It was one of the largest churches in Europe and built by Justinian, one of the most famous Byzantine emperors. Worth seeing though maybe not a must.

“Cool but not a must see”
Reviewed June 7, 2014

The exterior is beautiful, but the interior is in ruins. So unless you are passionate about seeing the resting place of St. John or have seen everything else, focus on the other locations around Selcuk.

“A place listed 3 different places on Tripadvisor : Church - Basilica and Cathedral”
Reviewed June 3, 2014

Located close to Selcuk center this place is well worth a visit - both for those who want to check the church layout and all the old stones scattered around AND for those who just want to see the panoramic view in all directions.

It even better and more panoramic from the citadell/fortress higher up. Free to visit as it is included in the 10 TL paid to enter this site.

“First century site”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

This first century sight near old Ephesus is dedicated to St. John the Apostle. Mary is believed to have spent her last days here. Only the foundations of the large church remain.
