“Amazing experience at Hotel Kalehan”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

Selcuk was our second stop on this trip and we booked hotel kalehan online, not knowing what to expect but the hotel was fantastic. The service was superior and they were very accommodating, I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Dinner was delicious and breakfast had many options to choose from. The rooms were clean and comfortable, we were given a room apart from the main entrance and it was roomy and quiet. The pool was relaxing and the poolside bar was very nice, again with incredible staff. We also booked a tour of Ephesus with the hotel which included a shuttle to the temple of Artemis, Ephesus, a tour guide and lunch. We were very impressed with our tour guide Seda, she was very knowledgable, kind and great English. Overall I wish I had more time to spend here.

As we looked at options and were told about nearby hotels (Kusadasi, Sirence) it was hard to know what to choose for our 4 night stay. Kalehan was easy to locate and within a town as well as short drive to Ephesus, so we made the decision from thousands of miles away. Room rates are extremely affordable, breakfast buffet is abundant and varied, the cooling pool surrounded by cherry trees, lime trees, and a rose garden made us feel we were enjoying a private home and garden. Rates fall after the 3rd night. The family owners are ever present as are the charming staff who accommodate any reasonable request. Our family of 3 preferred the superior rooms (larger and in a better building, we thought) but all seemed well tended and with good air conditioning, a must for summer travel. The owners could always provide good advice on travel routes and times making it easier to plan our excursions. Now that we are home, we are missing the lobby urn of spiced hibiscus/ rose tea always refreshing upon returning from the nearby sites. With a grocery store one block away and plenty of parking, we are already planning a future stay.

Dear our valued Guest,

We are all glad to see your reviews here. Our hotel has been serving to our guests by Koptur Tourism Agency for recently and we have had many improvements from every corner to little details. As you met with our managers (by your words the family owners) we are always dedicated ourselves to serve the best in our hotel. We hope to be able to do more in future. We wish you keep these nice memories until you come back again.

I arrived early on the 5:45 AM train from Denizli meaning I got to the hotel at 9am (before check in), I was worried that I wouldn't be able to check in but it was no problem! I'm blanking on the woman's name that checked me in but she couldn't have been sweeter or more helpful (giving directions to Efes, arranging my bags to be stored after I checked out, very friendly!). The pool really is a bit of heaven after the sweltering heat at Efes. The turtles add a homey touch and the rooms are comfortable. I walked from here to the center of town (5 mins) and the bus station (6mins). I misjudged how much time I should stay for Efes and Srince, so i had a bit of time to kill on the day I checked out. After check out, I stayed at the pool and relaxed for hours, changed in the bathroom in the lobby, gathered my bags and headed out. The staff nicely volunteered to give me a ride to the bus station (to catch the bus to Izmir airport, which if you have an aversion to heat - I wouldn't recommend. my bus wasn't AC. it was so hot my eyes were involuntarily closing).
Also with regards to the protests, you wouldn't know anything was going on if you weren't watching the news. I traveled to 5 cities in Turkey and there was nary a sign of protesting anywhere.

Dear our valued Guest,

We are also glad to see your reviews of our hotel. As our staff helped you at any point of your stay we are focused always for our guests' comfort and happiness.

You may try next time train for airport since it has very well airconditioning if the schedule is proper against departure. Meanwhile as you notified about the protests do not influence our area or other places in Turkey, traveling around would not be evaluated negative.

We hope to welcome again in our hotel.

We stayed for three nights at the Hotel Kalehan and gave a great experience. The hotel is in excellent condition, with very nice garden around the pool. The room was big, very clean and comfortable, for a very reasonable price. The breakfast was very good, with many options to choose from. The restaurant is great for dinner. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to every one.

Our travel agent booked this as we had to cancel our booking in Izmir due to the protests so we were not sure what we would be getting.
The hotel was a good surprise - really liked the garden and the wandering turtles.
Room was comfortable. The breakfast spread was varied.
We did try their restaurant for dinner and it was decent.
Staff attentiveness was however dependent on staff as the check out staff on our last day was not sure of the train schedule.
Overall, a good stay.

Dear our valued Guest,

Thank you very much for your review of our hotel. As you mentioned the protests do not effect people much who travel around but focused on Turkish citizens. We have been here in our town very quiet lately. We are glad you enjoyed your stay in our hotel with the service you have been given. Only exception was the information of train schedule as we will give to our staff more details on it. We hope to welcome you again later in our hotel.

Stayed here with a group for 3 nights. The rooms were very comfortable, and the food in the restaurant was great. The staff was also very friendly! The hotel was also very pretty, with nice gardens and beautiful surroundings. I really enjoyed the stay, and would recommend it to anyone who is traveling to the region!

Returning to the understated hotel after a long day at Ephesus made us feel like we were coming to an oasis. Although we'd slept here the night before, we had failed to notice many of the nice little touches that make this place attractive. Perhaps the nicest thing about it is the nice swimming pool and surrounding garden - perfect for letting the dust of the day melt away.

The rooms are a good size and we had ample room for the three of us. It has air conditioning which works weirdly by remote control but does work well. The shower was small but serviceable.

Breakfast was a nice Turkish style breakfast and filling though not amazing, We didn't try dinner as there are a number of excellent and inexpensive restaurants 5 blocks away. The walk is a bit odd as it is past some industrial-type shops, but it is a safe walk and you do get a local feel as you walk.

A slightly more modern physical plant and better location would have rated this a 5th circle.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 102 - large and at the end of the hall. Good location and would gladly select it...
