My wife and I booked our stay on the basis of Trip Advisor and other positive reviews. Based on those reviews, the moderate price, and the very positive experience we had at a less expensive place in Istanbul for the previous three nights, we had high expectations in February 2014. Those expectations were not met. Details matter: a bathroom needs all its light bulbs working, its soap dispenser filled, and a bathmat. If your hotel is in a place with cold weather and a room has two beds, please have two extra blankets in the room, not one. If you say you will provide breakfast at 8:00 (a reasonable time, we think), the breakfast guy should not have to be woken up with a rapping at the window from his sofabed in the hotel office at 8:15 by caffeine-deprived guests eager to get to Ephesus. Further, consider providing an in-room kettle like other moderate hotels, so guests may make tea or instant coffee, even if they must buy their own tea or Nescafe (sold everywhere). We must say that the employees, even the sleeping breakfast guy, were friendly and helpful, but the onsite manager was not particularly engaged. We cut short our stay by one night. This hotel might be just fine during the high season, but in February they should have been closed rather than have provided substandard service for very few guests that will do their reputation no good at all.

My wife and I stayed in Hotel Akay in November for a couple of days in order to visit Ephesus. The room was fine and the staff friendly but the service was almost non existent: breakfast not ready at 08.00, room not made up, restaurant not open. The hotel may be great in the summer but don't expect too much in winter.

Checked in late after long drive and ferry from Greece. Helpful staff. Room spacious, clean and comfortable. Would have liked light switches near beds and a few wall sockets rather than extensions, but this is a minor detail. We're still here now. had lovely breakfast this morning and dinner from restaurant next door but sadly a couple booked into the room next door and have been making ominous noises for past two hours. I wouldn't like to elaborate but its very loud and very embarrassing! Thankfully my family is asleep right now!

Enjoyed the pool and the terrace beside it. Breakfast was only average and left out uncovered for rather a long time. Staff very helpful with transport to Ephasus and town. At age 76 I found the number of stairs daunting...32 up to breakfast on the roof, another two flights down from room to pool so this could be a consideration for older guests. Roof terraces are shared between occupants of two rooms which proved a solution to a problem as I was given anti-diarrhoea tablets by our fellow guests on the terrace in order to survive a four hour bus journey. Note I had eaten at the restaurant next door not at the hotel although I cannot be sure I picked up a tummy bug there but hygiene standards seemed low. The cook was smoking and there were numerous hungry cats around the tables. Otherwise an enjoyable stay.

We stayed for 3 extra nights, last minute, in Selcuk. Hotel Akay was more than accommodating. It is clearly a family-run hotel, but everyone is very professional and eager to help. Clean, quiet rooms. Reasonable prices. We were excited to stay at a hotel with a pool, and the pool and subsequent courtyard were always clean and quiet. Just around the corner from the Saint John Basilica and the Isabey Mosque, in the old part of the city. Also within walking distance of the Temple of Artemis and the city center. Wished we could have stayed longer, but alas, work was calling us back. I would recommend this place to all of my friends for sure.

We stayed in Akay Hotel for two days 5th and 6th of August 2013. When we arrived the room was ok but the toilet cover was not cleaned! (urine from the previous guest I suppose).
The roof top breakfast is a good idea, but somehow flies have to be kept away, or else food must be covered. Butter was under direct sunlight and had melted.
The price is rather too much for what it offers.

The hotel picked us up at the airport in Izmir, an hour away. We had rooms in the new section on the pool. The rooms were quiet, modern, and the finishings were high quality, though the room, and especially the bath, was small. The outdoor private patio was huge! The pool was beautiful and very private with an adjacent bar area. The rooftop restaurant is good (I selected my fish directly from the cooler), and it overlooks the 5th century remains of the church of St John (the apostle's remains are supposed to have been there), a modern mosque (12th century!) and the ancient remains of the temple of Artemis, one of the wonders of the ancient world. The location is perfect for touring Ephesus. The hotel is family owned and is extremely well run, friendly, and helpful. It just felt good! Is it the Four Seasons? No. It is a very comfortable place to stay near Ephesus, and a great place to relax for a few days and see western Turkey by day trips. The staff is exceptional. They define Turkish hospitality! You will love it too. Say hi to Ria for me!

Room Tip: The new sections on the pool are probably the best.
