“Lovely”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was in a great location and had great Turkish small town atmospherics. Located right by St. John's Cathedral and a centuries old Mosque. The pool was refreshing after a hot day of sight seeing and the rooms were nice. They do use two double beds to make a single full-size bed, just fyi. The bathrooms were very clean and the showers nice and hot.
Also a short walk to the Selcuk town center where you can find many stores and restaurants.
On Saturdays there is a market in Selcuk, highly recommend it. Do not engage with the fishermen, they were perverted and do not respect foreign women - but everyone else in Selcuk were lovely.

Room Tip: The rooms on the newer side are bigger.

The hotel had a nice resort feel to it, a quiet oasis after the crowds and heat of Ephesus. The pool was very refreshing after a hot day and the location of the hotel made it easy to walk to find dinner and to explore Isa Bey Mosque and St Johns. We caught a dolmus (minibus) to Ephesus at the bus depot a short walk down the road. We arrived by train at night and the hotel offered to send their car to come pick us up which was really a nice touch. They even made sure we had dinner even though it was late. There were nice touches like a bottle opener in the room and tables around the pool to sit and have a drink. Stay the night in Selcuk when you see Ephesus and stay at Hotel Akay.

We loved the Hotel Akay. We could not get a Superior room, but found the Standard room to be perfectly acceptable. Large enough, with modern bathroom en-suite and a comfortable bed. The photos on the website actually depict the rooms and grounds accurately (for a change). The lobby is small but comfortable, the pool and little poolside bar delightful. Some may object to the crowing of roosters in the wee hours, but we preferred that to the noise of traffic and yowling cats in Istanbul. But, the most important asset of this hotel is Ria, the hotelier. She is very friendly and accommodating and a font of knowledge for the independent traveler. The location is superb for visiting all of the sites in the area, the townspeople are friendly and Selcuk itself provides an interesting, low-stress way to take in local Turkish culture, cuisine and shopping. This hotel is not for those that want luxury, but it has everything you need and is perfect for those that want a decent, casual, comfortable place to stay without breaking their budget.

Room Tip: If you're willing to pay the extra money, the rooms overlooking the pool looked really lovely, w...

Had the chance to stay at the Hotel Akay with a group of college students on a study abroad program and found the hotel to be an excellent hotel. The staff was friendly and super helpful. The location is just far enough away from the main streets to be quiet but close enough for an easy walk to dinner or lunch. Very close to the local mosque so be prepared to wake up early! Rooftop dining area is a great place to see the sunset. Pool in the newer part of the hotel was very clean and well maintained and a great place to cool off on a hot day. Each room is clean and all are a bit different so you have lots to choose from. Selcuk is certainly a town you want to stay in for a few days and makes a great base to explore all of the sites that surround it. Planning to go back here next year for another stay of about 5 days.

Room Tip: If you can I would stat in the newer part of the hotel but for my money it all works just fine.

This boutique hotel is close buy the 14th century mosque in a very quiet part of this town. It is located on a very charming old cobble stoned street located close to the beautiful old mosque – indeed at the top of the street was a small building identified as a library dating from the 15th century. The rooms are somewhat small but very clean and with balconies and an inner courtyard make this a very attractive place to stay in this charming market town. The small swimming pool is close by the hotel and was very appreciated after a long drive. The only drawback was the broken seat on the toilet but otherwise everything in the room and bathroom was just great. Most appreciated was the breakfast served from 7am that allowed us to enjoy breakfast before we made our early morning flight from Izmir. Highly recommended for those wanting to stay the night in Selcuk.

We wanted a hotel in Selcuk for a couple of nights so we could visit Ephesus. This hotel fit the bill very well. The room was very comfortable and the shower was fine. It was also lovely that there was a swimming pool. The hotel offers a complimentary car service to Ephesus and back, which was very convenient, and also has a good stock of books about the ruins in the reception area.
The breakfast was OK - nothing spectacular, but got the day started. We ate at the restaurant once and thought it was adequate - but thereafter always went into the town as there is a nice range of restaurants there.
We would recommend this hotel quite happily.

We had a pleasant two-day stay at the hotel. The room was clean and larger than the usual ones we had been staying in (but we paid extra, of course). We appreciated the hotel car service, it drops you at the archaeological site or town and will take you to the train or bus station.
The pool was very pleasant after our days on the road. The hotel provides you with beach towels, no need to use your white bathroom towel. You can get a drink at the pool if you like. There is free wifi, good signal.

However, couple of minor issues. The shower is cold of a morning, possibly because it's solar heated. Make sure you have your shower of an evening. The restaurant dinner was very ordinary. It reminded me of a dinner a (non-cooking) husband prepares for himself when his wife is away - shredded lettuce, chips, rice (few days old), baked tomato and kebabs. Breakfast, however is OK, nothing flash but the usual Turkish hotel breakfast. BTW, while eating breakfast on the rooftop restaurant we could see the tourist shops below. It seems a lot of the 'trinkets' for the tourists are left out overnight. I could be wrong about leaving them out overnight, but it says something about the cost of them.

The town is about a 20 minute walk (if you don't take the hotel car) and is easy to find you way there and back.

Overall, we liked the hotel, would stay here again. Staff are friendly and obliging, the drop off and pick up in the hotel car were nice.
