Owner description: Several years after the death of Christ, St. John brought the Virgin Mother to this house located on the slopes of Bülbül Mountain. It is believed the Virgin Mary lived in this house until she died at the age of 64.

Site is mostly a shrine as two recent popes have visited & declared site Holy. Small building recently built used as a place for pilgrims to "visit with Mary". Candles are available to offer for prayers. Holy water is also dispensed, but bring your own container.

We visited here as part of a guided day tour we took from Bitez. Im sorry to say the daunting coach ride up here stuck in my head more than the house did (not for the faint hearted) i would not have gone out of my way to visit here although it is nice to pay your respects, it is very touristy and being a sceptic who is to say beyond doubt this IS the house, we visited during summer and it was full of coach trips .

This small stone home is perched on top of a hill immersed in a heavily wooded forest. It seems to be a pilgrimage site with thousands of messages written on material and attached to a stone wall at the base of the house.

Went as part of full day Thomson cruise excursion. My husband and I both found the experience highly moving. Whilst area very busy the house itself and grounds were very tranquil. Able to light a candle and collect the blessed water once through the house plus a prayer wall where you can attach your written prayers with ribbons. The whole. Day excursion was well worth the expense.

A rather modest site situated in the hills above Ephesus. The trees provide shade, which can be a relief in mid summer, but there is not much to see at the site itself.
