this is a wonderful place for a special occasion although we did not feel the food was up to the standard it should have been and also for the price (expensive). The staff are wonderful, friendly, polite and helpful and certainly cannot be faulted but the food could be improved to 5 star standard.

From the opulent setting...you are on the terrace of a palace overlooking the Bosphorous to the exquisite food and service you cannot go wrong. It is expensive but expected given the elegant, romantic surroundings and fabulous food and service. Take your camera to photograph the palace, the staircase and chandelier is reminiscent of the Dolmabahce Palace but you can take photos here. Order the red lentil soup and do NOT miss the chocolate and apricot dessert. Enjoy the lights of the Bosphorous Bridge and allow the sommelier to help you select a delicious Turkish wine to accompany your meal. I especially enjoyed the onion dome shaped plate covers. Very unique.

Wow! Great Turkish cuisine, service and atmosphere.
Can't wait to return! The staff helped us navigate the menu to be sure we sampled true Turkish food that is excellently prepared.
Be prepared for high prices for wines and alcoholic beverages due to being heavenly taxed by the government.

Yes, it's on the expensive side by Turkish standards but you'd easily pay more at a top New York restaurant so dont let price be your only consideration. We had an inside table (smokers sat outside), with views of the Bosphorous. They brought a velvet, gold embroidered footstool for my purse to avoid back of chair or floor placement. Hot lemon/mint scented towels were given to refresh us before the meal.

You won't go wrong on anything you order, from hot and cold starters, to traditional Ottoman cuisine including the "testi" lamb cooked in a clay pot and broken open tableside. All entrees came on silver plates with lids that the staff removed simultaneously to reveal the delights underneath. Portions are just right. Bread plates were kept full with different pitas and rolls throughout.

Service was perfect and unobtrusive, just the way it should be. My husband liked that he didn't need coat and tie to dine. He wore dressy black jeans and Oxford shirt, no problem. Other diners were a mix, with women in sequins, business suits or more dressy casual wear. In all, a memorable last night in Istanbul.

We stayed at Ciragan Palace which was magnificent and thought we would try Tugra which is meant to be their premier restaurant. We wanted to go at 8 pm and sit on the terrace but were told it was only available at 7pm (it was never over a third full). The menu was explained in full and we ordered Mezzes, two hot appetizers and two mains. The menu said to have the Mezzes first and we specified we wanted this but the hot appetizers came out first. Our waiter blamed the new menu not a failure to remember 100's of years of tradition. The Mezzes were disappointing too many small bites. The hot appetizers were the highlight, liver and borek. The main meals came out but I had to wait or mine. The waiter was meant to smash to pot it came in which he I'd in the middle of the floor so it spilled over the floor (and sat there or half an hour). The mains kebab, under cooked, and stew, lacking in flavor, were disappointing.

For 1,000 TL or 20 times the local restaurants nearby it just wasn't worth it
