This hotel is on a newly restored section of Istanbul leading up to Nisantisi, the Rodeo Drive of Istanbul. Very close walk to Nisantisi, with all its shops, cafes and restaurants as well as a quick taxi from the rest of Istanbul nightlife and site-seeing. Very retro-, cool, hip hotel with great service. Also, guests get complementary day passes to Suada, a small, island pool and beach club, which was a great way to get some city and sun on a weekend vacation.

Great location. As far as we're concerned the Bosphorous and surrounding area is THE place to be in Istanbul. We liked that the property was not in an obvious tourist location but a local neighborhood to explore, yet easily accessible to taxis and boats etc. 20 min cab ride to major historical sites and tourist destinations. The hotel is not on the water - it would have been great to have a pool or somewhere to cool off in the heat - but then we're talking Four Seasons or Ciragn Palace (aka $$$$). Nice and friendly service, tiny but passable gym, good American breakfast every day. Your typical W with a slightly more funky twist on interior design.

Room Tip: We got an upgrade to room 402 - a jr suite with plenty of room and the great W bed (a must after 20...

The hotel is very edgey and the room we had was fabulous. Staff was very accommodating. The hotel is located away from the maddening tourists and is in the modern area of Istanbul. Fifteen minute walk takes you to public transportation which is very efficient in getting around the city.

We just stayed at the W for 5 nights. The front desk and manager were wonderful --helpful with somewhat complex reservations (cash, starpoints and extension of stay). The door attendants were excellent at finding cabs and explaining to the driver the location we were headed (accept this service as it was a challenge when we did this on our own). One concierge was excellent and one was not great at understanding our request/interests. Room service was fast and friendly, but the (American) food was average. It might help to add more Turkish cuisine. The bar was oddly empty and the bartenders were very eager and friendly, but not very polished. The room was stylish, comfortable and an EXCELLENT place to rest. Although the hotel does not seem to be right in the thick of things, it is convenient to everything --a short tram or cab to the historic sites and a short cab or long walk to some of the best bars and restaurants. I truly enjoyed my stay and look forward to returning. Thank you to all at the W Istanbul.

Room Tip: Fabulous and marvelous rooms have outside space

This was my first trip to Turkey, and I did visit several hotels. The W was very welcoming and professional. The day I arrived I had a wedding to go to that evening, one call to the front desk and they came picked up my suit pressed it and had it back in time for the wedding (no charge!). I like 24 hour room service and they provided some well needed meals that are nice to have after returning late when restaurants are closed. The Spa left a little to be desired, it was adequate but very small. I would like to have had wireless Internet included 30TL - $20/day seems a bit high, other than that I was very satisfied with my stay.

Hello There,
We are absolutely delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay at W Istanbul. It is great to hear that you found our team welcoming and professional and received a Whatever/Whenever W moment! The W day spa is on the smaller side compared to other W hotels, but we are happy to share that we provide summer spa services in the Marvelous Cabana Rooms and Spectacular Garden Rooms. It is a W brand standard to charge for in-room internet at this time, but we do have complimentary internet in all public spaces.
Look forward to seeing you back at W Istanbul soon!
Tia

Being an SPG member and having stayed in the W around the globe I was looking forward to our stay at the W in istanbul. I found the akaretler location charming and the immediate neigbourhood of row houses only added to the overall ambience. Being an ardent supporter of spg properties it is important to understand the distinction between the St. Regis, Westin and W hotels, and we were prepared for the hip urban atmosphere and the lounge/club style decor that the W hotels are known for. What we did not expect was the following experience:

1. Upon arrival to the hotel from the airport, there was nobody there to greet as the entrance, my wife and I rolled our sizable luggage from the taxi to the hotel entrance before we were helped. Somewhat minor but you expect more at €350/night

2. We were staying at the hotel for 4 nights and I called the whatver/whenever service on day 1 requesting Continuous online access from my room for the duration of my stay, without having to select a daily login. I was informed that the "IT" manager was not around but would get back to me the following morning. We never received a follow up on this issue or call back.

3. Being in a deluxe room on the Top floor (4th floor) we had a skylight over the foot of our bed that was a nice touch however it brought in direct sunlight to the room very early in
the morning. The sunlight had a shade that was dysfunctional and required multiple phone calls and finally duct tape to keep closed. Taping it shut seemed like a ugly short term solution.

4. Our pillowcases were stained and had tears in the fabric, holes to be precise, the bed and quality of linen is outstanding but dirty pillowcases unfortunately overshadows the positives in comfort and relaxation.

5. One morning we were outside and looking for help from the bell hop to flag us a taxi, after not being attended to for 10 minutes we were getting frustrated, finally we were acknowledged only to find that the next cab was given to 2 young women that arrived after us. At this point my wife proceeded to tell the individual that we were ahead of the party that just got into the cab. The bell hop got confrontational with my wife and she went back inside to speak with reception about the issue. Although the oversight could have just been human error on anybody's part, the lack of ownership and indignation on the part of the bell hop had us just walk down the street and hail our own taxi. The person at reception was apologetic and proceeded to speak to the bell hop in turkish to get his perspective. An unnecessary escalation that could have been quickly resolved without the indignation and attitude.

6. Other minor issues included oversights in room service like missing the 2 bottles of complimentary water, a magazine that gave visitors like us recommendation of places to visit was removed from our room. The W book with hotel information was also removed without informing the guests.

In summary the W in istanbul was capping our 2 week vacation of athens, santorini, mykonos and finally istanbul, and after having truly wonderful stays at the other hotels we were extremely underwhelmed by our experience at this hotel. Any one of these issues in isolation would not have triggered me to write a review but the cumulation of these experiences left me feeling like I need to share the feedback.

Dear W Guest,
We are extremely sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review, as we take these very seriously. We share all of our tripadvisor reviews with all W Talent and Managers and work to correct items immediately. Our Whatever/Whenever team works hard to deliver great service, and we are sorry that we were not able to provide top service during your stay. This is certainly not the W or Starwood standard and we would like the opportunity to turn this experience around.
Sincerely,
The W Istanbul Team
