“Turkish feast overlooking the Bosphorus”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Excellent traditional Turkish cuisine with a lovely view of the Bosphorus. Pick a main course and order everything on the tray of the appetizers. They are exquisite and overflowing treats. The mixed Kabob was delicious with those lemoned potatoes. Service was exemplary. Our plates and glasses were never empty despite the restaurant being completely full. Make sure you leave room for assorted pastries (they melt in your mouth) and a fantastic mint tea. While you dine in a beautiful roof-top terrace, the only draw back is there is no airconditioning; however, the breezes should keep you cool. Dinning at Hamdi's is an experience, so plan to stay for a couple of hours.

“Excellent view of Golden Horn”
Reviewed January 23, 2013 via mobile

This is one of the oldest restaurants in the old part of istanbul which used to serve majorly to the local merchants and shop owners. But in recent years its fame has spread well beyond small local business owners and has been a point of attention for tourists too. For sure, this is probably the best restaurants with this kind of excellent view of Golden Horn and Galata tower from the opposite side.

This restaurant represents majorly the south eastern kitchen of Turkey, which cinsists of a lot meat products and kebabs of many konds with or without spices. The entree ("mezes") are delicious. Alcohol is served too, although I am not sure of the wuality and the depth of their wine list as I haven't seen one. Anyway the spicy versions of the South Eastern kitchen 's dishes are not good companions for Wines, one should rather drink RAKI which is local Turkish hard liquior.

The service is average and the place is noisy and overctowded but the food is very good.

“Check out Hamdi for great food and a view”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

I was pleasantly surprised by our meal at Hamdi.

When we first arrived we were shown to the 2nd floor but decided to take the elevator to the top floor and we're glad we did. The 4th floor dining room is the place to enjoy a great meal and an even better view. The restaurant was packed with a fair mix of tourists and locals.

The service was very good. We ordered drinks and then our waiter showed us all the different available cold appetizers. Everything we sampled was tasty. I especially liked the haydari (a thick garlicy yogurt dip). We also ordered a pistachio kebab and a lamb/yogurt kebab. The meats were excellent but the accompanying vegetables and pilaf were nothing special. I would say that this was my favorite pistachio kebab of our two week trip.

If you are looking for a solid choice near the Spice Bazaar, I don't think you can go wrong with Hamdi. It's old school Turkish cuisine and reasonably priced. They also have a liquor license. Hamdi cafe' is on the ground floor.
