“Great location and super-friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2010

Apex is a good mid-budget hotel that is very conveniently located for all the sights of Old Istanbul. What makes it special are the people who work there. They make a great effort to be helpful and personable. For example, on my father's birthday, they surprised all of us with a cake.

One of the best properties i have stayed in, considering traveled all across the world. The owner Ibrahim along with his hotel staff was very helpful and charming. One of the best Indian restaurants is walking distance from the hotel.

I stayed here for one night at the very end of my trip, in the hopes of saving some money. The rest of my time in Istanbul, I stayed at Millennium Suites, which was wonderful, but cost more.

Overall, excellent for the money. You'd never consider this a five-star hotel, but that's not what you should expect given the very low price. I think of this as a very cozy, serviceable boutique. The front staff is extremely friendly (almost a bit too friendly when you're exhausted, but can hardly blame them for that). The rooms are not huge, but comfortable enough.

The beds are a bit on the hard side. And the bathroom is tiny tiny. Still, I enjoyed my one night here, and would stay again on this budget.

This place has a great location, with a central location but also quiet enough since it is further back from the main street. The staff are reasonably helpful, although at times I wondered whether they completely understood my questions. They, thankfully, helped us print our plane tickets the night before. We had difficulties with a missing plugin on the main computer, but in the end it was figured out.

The rooms were small and my gripe is mainly with the washrooms. We couldn't figure out how to use the shower. The breakfast was buffet-style but fairly minimal. We had a hard time getting an early breakfast. The staff were usually still putting things together after we had finished and left. I don't think we were able to have anything that was served hot.

Good location and that's about it...
With several things not working in the room (shower, air-conditioning, curtains) and a request for another room not fulfilled it was promised these would be fixed, an attempt was made but unsuccessful. I fixed the curtains myself, the aircon was week so woke up in a sweat, power went out three times, no hot water one morning, no plug for the sink and no spare toilet paper. Breakfast was mediocre at best.

When all this was politely mentioned to the manager on checking out and that I was uneasy paying full price for much less than a full service, no apology was offered and I was informed it was my fault that I should have asked for all these issues to be fixed a third time (when we got back after midnight when my partner was in bed and I was strugling to have a shower after a hot day sightseeing!).
20 minutes later after being intimidated by the manager he agreed to a discount, I got home to discover the credit card had been charged for the balance!
