La Maison Hotel
Ranked #616 of 1,163 Hotels in Istanbul
Reviewed November 9, 2013

I have just spent two nights at La Maison, while working in Istanbul.
I had a lovely room with a great view of the Bosphorus.
The Hotel is situated on quite a steep hill, which I walked down a couple off times to
the Ciragan Palace Kempinski Hotel where some colleagues where staying, and went out to eat nearby.
On other occasions the Hotel found me a Taxi, that generally turned up very promptly.
Other than breakfast, I did not get the chance to eat in the evening at the Hotel.

I will return to Istanbul at some point not working, and would consider staying again

Yes, it is up a very steep hill, but it is well-worth it. Considering the location, within 400m of the Bosphoros and the Four Seasons Hotel, this is a fab hotel. I won't give it 5* as my room was a little tired let's say but on the flip-side this is a real hotel, run by great, service orientated people who want to make you feel welcome. Everything works, Wi-Fi as well and the restaurant and terrace on the top floor? What a view, one of the best! Great place, will be back.

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a sea view

Used this small hotel for a budget business trip but it is really more suited to tourism. Small and clean room which was a bit too cramped to work in but had excellent free wifi. Could have used an in room coffee station. The staff were extremely helpful and printed things for us gratis. There is a bar and restaurant on the roof with stunning Bosphorus views but food is not available in the hotel outside restaurant hours. Most importantly of all for the non athletic among us - this hotel is a great location for its views and close to the Dolmabace Palace and also to Ortakoy - but it is at the top of a short but extremely steep hill!!! You will need to go down the hill for other restaurants etc. about 10 mins walk to the main road. All in all a very welcoming establishment but scores lower on the amenities.

We stayed here for several nights while in town to attend a friend's wedding at the Ciragan Palace hotel just down the street. Our room was facing the ocean on the lobby level. We had a nice balcony but unfortunately our view of the Bosphorous was mostly blocked by some trees. However the view from the restaurant on the top floor (at breakfast every morning) was breathtaking! The breakfast food itself was solid but not as good as some of the other hotel breakfasts we had on our trip to Turkey.

The location is nice for the views, but being at the top of a hill also has its disadvantages. Recently they changed the road to be one way (going down) and our airport shuttle driver refused to drive us up the hill, so we were forced to pull 3 heavy bags all the way up (300m walk) in the hot August afternoon sun, which was really difficult. Luckily our other taxi drivers all drove us back up. Unfortunately it is not close to any public transportation. There is a ferry terminal near the bottom of the hill (10 min walk) but the boats that leave there mainly go the Asian side of Istanbul, not the Old Town, which is where we always wanted to go. Distance-wise, it isn't so far to get the Old Town by taxi but the problem is the traffic! I can't believe how much traffic there is in this city. It's too bad there isn't a tram stop nearby. The tram stop - end of the line - is several km away - a bit too far for us to walk, and it was difficult for us every time when we tried looking for taxis. One time was during rush hour and there were no taxis (and all the traffic was jammed anyway) and the other time the first taxi we found refused to drive us to the hotel, and the second one ripped us off. But oh well.

The price for the hotel seemed reasonable and it definitely has a nice and homey feel to it. I hear the restaurant is very good for dinner, although we did not have a chance to make it. It is also close to many other nice hotels, such as the 4 Seasons and Conrad. And close (and downhill) walking distance to the wedding ceremony at Ciragan Palace.

A party of family and friends stayed at the hotel while we were visiting Istanbul to attend my sons wedding. La Maison was close to the wedding venue of the beautiful Feriye Restaurant on the Bosphorus and also other lovely places along this stretch of coast all within easy walking distance . The hotel was spotlessly clean and comfortable and many of the rooms had wonderful sea views. The rooftop restaurant had a fantastic terrace with superb views of the Bospherous and we enjoyed having a leisurely breakfast there. The restaurant staff did not hurry you and allowed you to sit and enjoy the views and the sunshine while drinking another cup of coffee or Turkish tea. We had dinner here on one of the evenings and the food and service was again very good. The reception staff were always very helpful.
Although this is not a luxurious hotel it is very comfortable and relaxing and when I go back to Istanbul I will certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Higher rooms with balcony have great sea views.

We recently spent two nights at La Maison on a business trip to Istanbul. Our rooms were comfortable and well presented, if a little tired in places but nothing you couldn't overlook when you saw the view from the balcony - looking out over the Bosphorus towards the Blue Mosque on the horizon. A tasty buffet-style breakfast was served in the rooftop restaurant where the views were even more stunning. Just be careful of the seagulls who like have breakfast too! The same restaurant served a very nice evening meal - this time with the lights of Istanbul as a backdrop. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is perhaps a little out of the way for the usual tourist sights but it was in a quiet street away from all the hustle and bustle of the City.
