Main area for development is employee attitude which creates the atmosphere in the hotel.
Employees not seeking eye contact with guests, nor saying hello unless directly adressed (then a professional smile). Receptionists moving around in front of guests in receptionist area without paying attention to guests, manager approaching in the area doing the same. Guest receptionist situated between reception and lifts not paying attention to guests passing by, more focussing on mobile phone texting. Concierge ("info@...") did not reply to email before or during stay.
When we ordered espresso, double espresso and cappuccino after dinner in hotel restaurant we were all served filter coffe (though the single "espresso" was served in a small cup). We had to argue that filter coffe is different from espresso etc before we had it replaced (!). No morning papers before 8am when having breakfast (too late for weekdays I say).
Scrambled eggs more of soup first day. Second day the opposite, like a cake. Third morning almost "average standard".
No information in the room about shoe polish service and no bag for such service, so I dialled "0" to guest service and was told to bring my pair of shoes to the reception when I was leaving the hotel at 8 am in the morning. Receptionist did not understand why I brought my shoes to the reception and asked me to come back after 9am, pointing at the entrance where a shoe polisher had his place. Even though I referred to my call with Guest Service (her colleagues), she still argued. She made a few more calls and then asked me to wait by the shoe polishers place and he should come. 10 min later I put my shoes there with a note as I had to leave (with the risk of someone just picking up my shoes and go away). Luckily, I found my shoes polished in my room in the evening. Pity that I had to argue for a basic service instead of having a smile in the morning "give them to me and I'll make sure they get polished".
Room in Preferred Guest area (11th floor) dark and worn, though spacious. Not quiet (you hear your neighbours talking). At the moment a new sky scrape is under construction, facing the room I had. Drilling in concrete was loud and annoying as windows was not closing tight. (You hear wind blowing through the closed (!) window at night). Tv picture with lousy quality (like in the old days when you had a physical antenna with bad connection, "ants war"). I called guest service for help adjusting the picture. First they would send someone up, but a few minutes later they called back and told me it was a general problem they could not fix). Air condition very noisy so it had to be switched off during sleep.
No ashtrays outside entrance so guests just dropped cigarettes on the ground (not very nice impression when arriving).
I stayed for three nights, impression did not improve during the stay. I do not recommend this hotel. Someone said Sheraton bought this hotel not long ago, and there is obviously still a lot to do to convert to Sheraton standard.
