Let's start with the good. Beautiful hotel, fab lobby nice rooms and wonderful decorated throughout.
Now, reception desk appear to think that dealing with the guests is below them. Check in took forever and was done in a surly manner. They seemed to be always on the phone and rarely acknowledged that you were waiting for them. Once when I approached the receptionist actually picked up the phone and made a call ! Ordering a taxi for us to leave appeared also below them, eventually I had to tip a busboy (who are excluded from this criticism )to walk down the road to get one. Other staff in suits always were around but also didn't see dealing with guests as part of their job.
Sometimes this was as hilarious as was annoying.
Having said the above I would still stay there again for the beauty of the hotel but serious staff training needs to take place.

Room Tip: Get one with windows to the outside half the rooms are looking on to the atrium ,making them dark.

After holidaying in Northern Cyprus we extended our holiday with two nights at the Legacy Ottoman, The hotel was over the top, ostentatious, filled with gilded furniture and everything we wanted and expected. The room was large very tasteful, an excellent shower in the bathroom. the bed was comfy. The breakfasts were excellent, with lots of choice. Would I go back again - without any hesitation the answer is yes!!!

Excellent location in the heart of the old city of Istanbul. Within walking distance of all the major sites and market areas. Beautiful views. Decent breakfast included. Magnificent lobby and generally a grand old hotel that has been well maintained. Most rooms are decent and comfortable but ask to see first. We would stay there again. Staff very helpful and courteous. Area is safe and clean.

The hotel is in an old building, but has been tastefully maintained. The A/c Worked all night which was great. (We had stayed at other Turkish hotels where the A/Cs kept shutting down during the night). Rooms had nice big windows.

In the middle of the historic area of Istanbul, which we enjoyed immensely.

The staff were great. However initially they did not have us registered. I had booked via their web site, and luckily I had my paperwork with the conformation. I don't know what the problem was. I suggest maybe using a major hotel booking site, not the one from the hotel's web site.

We stayed on mini belated honeymoon and the experience was amazing! We have been all over the world and came with trepidation as some of the reviews where terrible. I am taking the time to write this as is absolutely not fair! I have a suspicion that there might have been some construction back in April or that hotel management changed (or owner) as the staff was new. Alternatively, might be some western bias of people being charged £300 for a hole in London but don't like anything "foreign."

Anyway, 1) Guest relations Sena is a wonderful lady. Greeted us personally and we found (paper) roses in our bed and a chilling champaign! Mind you this was a $100 Internet booking 2) the room is amazingly specious, huge ceilings, I believe some of the reviewers have never been in other cities or modern day flags. Bed was comfortable and while lacking some minor 5* elements like robes... Who cares? 3) breakfast was complete with real eggs (please look at the liquid plastic we are served at the. Hiltons etc. Breads, cakes, yogurts etc. You need to know that Turkish breakfast is SALTY stuff by nature, not pancakes! Nonetheless it had excellent jam like sour cherry, grape molasses, strawberries etc. Anyway, I don't get the reviews. Ok dude, you spent $120 with tax and all and you having breakfast looking Bosporous, Hagia Sophia, Top Kapi: mist coming up from the "wine dark sea"...3,000 year civilization at this very spot...so again give me a break!!!
4) language comments. Yes the staff is not eng lit material but we tested the waters in couple of languages, and there was no real issue. Little amusing but ok. Staff can get some more training and not congregating like in a. village square but next time you are being served by indigenous in your country compare and contrast. 5) Hamam was fantastic and free! Yes you pay for massage ?? People work for living! 6) location, is amazing 7) this is a westerner review so save me any "bias" comment...

Room Tip: We had street view. Was amazingly quiet.

The staff were very nice, although there are a couple who need to be introduced the concept of deodorant. The guy in the lobby who shines shoes does a dynamite job! Highly recommend him. The breakfast had oodles of options. We ate dinner there three times (once by ourselves, and twice by arrangement of Gate 1). The meals are nothing to write home about, so if you have the option, go someplace else. The rooms were had were very modern and comfortable. I'd stay there again ... I'd just eat dinner somewhere in town.

Room Tip: If you can get a corner room, they are really, really big. The rooms facing the main street are onl...

LO takes up at least half a block well-situated between Eminonu ferry piers/Galata bridge and Sirkeci Station, with fast, frequent light rail access to Sultanahmet tourist zone. Great spot to walk Galata and up to the funicular. There are a couple blocks of good Turkish restauants just beyond Sirkeci; Food and drink stores are limited. The neighborhood is residential business w/few tourist services but nice atmosphere with cats in every little square and alley; well cared for, which was for me an enchantment of Istanbul.
The building is from Ottoman era and management has conserved an elegant facade & spacious atmospheric lobby with caged glass elevators. There is a pleasant bar on top floor where you can watch the lights change on bridges over the Golden Horn. The staff are helpful, some English spoken.
Unfortunately, management policies are from another century. There are signs in public spaces and even rooms directing that no food or drink may be brought into the hotel (for our safety!), nor can anything be taken from breakfast buffet to room. This is compounded by the absence of any minibar, coffee maker, etc. We received a coffeemaker the first night w/1 little Nescafe pack. The next day they removed it, saying it was a welcome cup. Still, they did provide a plate of Turkish sweets. Breakfast was medicore with the tiniest simmets I saw in the entire trip. No cooked-to-order, They charge for fresh juice & espresso coffee. It felt more & more like they want guests to pay for every little thing; there was also a charge to use the very average fitness center in the basement.
The rooms are not all the same size. Those facing towards the ferry pier have less view and are small; those on the neighborhood side are much larger and have nice n-hood view. Furnishings were a little old but adequate and bathroom was ok in the big room.
It's a potentially excellent alternative to the touristy Sultanahmet, but needs a housecleaning, starting with the management style.

Room Tip: Floors 4&5, facing the neighborhood side are the largest with pleasant views.
