“So glad to be back at Marmara”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2012

Stayed three nights, first days of December. Nothing has changed since last year, it is still the best of the best place to stay in Istanbul. What is a bedroom anyway? A dark place to sleep! So having a small room clean and practical was all I wanted. Elif, you deserve a Gold Medal for the handling of all questions, the smile you give so freely, you are as gracious as your whole family. It is a Bed and Breakfast atmosphere, meeting other clients was a lot of fun, smiling with the staff, smiles dont need language! I love this small family hotel with: wi-fi, super mum's jams for breakfast, library for free books as well as free umbrellas, easy access to all sites being so close, free coffee and tea all day, a fridge well stocked to use on an honour system to sign, AC, great bed, a dead end street for quietness for a good sleep. Thank you and I already miss you all. This is the only place I want to stay in Istanbul, it is really a gem of a place with a family that cares about people and a good service.

A friend and I stayed in October 2012 for three nights and found the Marmara Guesthouse to be a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Pluses: Our sea view room with a lovely view; pleasant roof top terrace; good breakfast spread; hot beverages always available; bottled water for sale at cost (as well as other items); our knowledgable and friendly hostess (Elif); convenient walk to the historic sites and restaurants. Not negatives, but Considerations: lots of stairs; directly across the street from a hostel (guests there could look into our window from their rooftop terrace; and other than Elif, I didn't meet any staff who truly spoke English. Of course, those considerations are probably true for most hotels in this part of Istanbul!

We have just come back from our trip to Istanbul and stayed at the Marmara guesthouse. The place is really centrally located, just a few steps from Aya Sophia and the Blue Mosque. The rooms are clean and there is a lovely terrace from where you can have breakfast overlooking the Marmara sea. The staff of the hotel was very very helpful, from notifying my husband (who arrived there one day earlier) of my flight delay, to giving us directions regarding sights we wanted to visit, to helping us with some transport cards which we used after topping them up. There is also a library collection of books and magazines offered by the house and free coffee and tea during the day. All in all, it is a perfect place to stay and many thanks to the girl who managed the guest house :)!

We stayed here for 4 nights and tried to come back a few weeks later but it was booked. Great location for walking to major tourist spots. Excellent buffet breakfast on a terrace with a wonderful view. Free hot tea available 24/7. Able to purchase water and beer at the hotel. Hospitality met all our needs and expectations (again especially thanks to Elif). It seemed the perfect blend of price and creature comforts. Our room was not fancy but it was quiet, clean, and had all the essentials.

I stayed here with a friend in October 2012, upon recommendation from Lonely Planet guide and after checking Trip Advisor reviews. The guesthouse was perfect for us. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming hosts, lovely rooms, fabulous roof top terrace with view over the Marmara Sea, wonderful choice for breakfast, ideal location a few minutes walk from the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, etc, just round the corner from many good restaurants and close to a tram stop. We could not have wished for anything more. Excellent value for money and highly recommended.

This is a fabulous guesthouse very close to well-known sights. The owners are very welcoming and friendly. Delicious and plentiful breakfast. The view from the terrace is NOT to be missed. Clean but simple. You won't be disappointed!
