“Great location, great view”
Reviewed October 28, 2010

We chose the hotel based on great reviews on this site. And the Ada is an OK hotel. Nothing fancy, the room slightly on the small side, but the view from the room and roof terrace is stunning. And the place is very clean. We found a guidebook on Istanbul in the hotel´s bookshelf, and were encouraged to keep it for our stay. A very kind gesture!

The room is well equipped with water, coffee making facilities and fridge. And the bottled water is reasonably priced.

We were woken up every morning at 6 am to the prayer call from the minaret - so no need for a wake up call! :-) The location is very quiet during nighttime so you get a good night´s sleep.

The hotel is very close to a lot of the "must sees" and thus a great location for seeing Istanbul. The neighborhood itself does not have a lot of restaurants or places to eat, but this is not a problem. The hotel will recommend restaurants for you - we went with their recommendations for a fish restaurant one night. The fish restaurant was ok - nothing outstanding. But we eat a lot of fish and are probably quite difficult to please. So my recommendation would be to be very explicit in your requirements and budgets when getting the hotel to recommend a place.

When we were checking out, we were asked if we could pay in cash. (We did the check out the evening around 23.00 prior to our departure since we were leaving very early in the morning.) We were offered a free transfer to the airport if we settled the account in cash. I don´t find that appropriate. If the hotel prefers cash payment they should have stated so in advance and not expect us to wander out at night to find an ATM and walk around with huge amounts of cash... Also, withdrawing cash on our credit card abroad is quite costly (more than the free transport...) When we declined the offer, we were able to pay using our credit card. But this should not have been an issue at all.

The hotel staff were attentive and smiling. The breakfast was good - a wide selection of hot and cold dishes, coffee, tea and juice, and fresh fruit.

Our trip around Turkey meant we started and finished in Istanbul. On our arrival we landed at the Ada Hotel and were able to scope it out for the finish of our trip, where we would have a party of 8. This little hotel is in a great location and has a very scenic rooftop breakfast area. This was our first exposure to Istanbul and what better way to see the Marmaris Sea side of the old city from our rooftop location. It is easy walking to all the main locations and we found it quite easy to find our way around and back to the hotel.
We did have a basic room on our first visit but got room 303 on our return, which was bigger and had nicer views. It is close to the mini Sophia, which means that the call to prayer is quite loud...:-) I had never heard it before but became quite used to it. Of the 5 calls, the only one that really affects you is the 6am blast but it happens all over the city, so hard to avoid.
Would go back there again.

Nice unpretentious hotel, the owners were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast's up on the roof terrace very good. It's worth walking down towards the waterfront, lovely pastel coloured houses and quiet art shops, all without the mad hustle of the main tourist areas. Special mention to the lovely Georgian lasses that work at the hotel, they are delightful, I stood upon a table up on the roof terrace with them to watched a turkish wedding party dance and sing in the carpark next to the hotel - magical. There are two small supermarkets just around the corner from the hotel - one sells alcohol, one not. watch the paths, they are lethal, we had to help an American lady who went flying down a pothole - keep your wits about you!.

Traveling alone, I wanted a safe, clean, centrally-located and friendly hotel in Istanbul. The Ada Hotel was everything and more. The reviews on this site were dead on - fantastic owners, great breakfast, clean and comfortable rooms and and excellent location and room rate. The neighborhood was quiet, yet around the corner from all kinds of action. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone lukcy enough to be in Istanbul. Free wi-fi in the room was definitely a plus!

A Small Family run business in the Heart of Istanbul, rooms are spotless and beds are very comfortable.
It's a few minutes stroll to the Tourist attractions of Sultanahmet so the location is hard to beat.
A buffet style breakfast is served at the top of the Hotel with great Views across the City which is a lovely way to start the day.
Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Istanbul !!

I travelled with my family, five in total. The hotel is unique in that the rooms are adjoining so that any number of people can travel together . If travelling with children the rooms can be side by side with adjoining doors. There are also rooms with suite so that 2 rooms can be off the living room. Neat!
Dogan, the owner is also a well-known and very knowlegeable travel agent. He was very patient. We went armed with our copy of the Lonely Planet and we got him to arrange our tour to Cappodocia as well as Pamukkale at a very reasonable price.
The hotel price includes breakfast which is sumptuous and sportsa terrace overlooking a historic mosque as well as a brilliant view of the Marmara Sea.
We would definitely stay here again. Bravo Dugan!
We are airline employees so we will recommend the hotel to our friends.
