“Perfect in every way”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

We stayed at the Ada Hotel for 2 weeks in December and it was perfect. The hotel is ideally located a short walk from Sultan Ahmed mosque and Aya Sofya, the owners and staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, the rooms and beds are very comfortable and the ones we stayed in on the 4th floor had great views of the Marmara Sea, and breakfast on the rooftop patio was a fantastic way to start each day. On top of that, the hotel is reasonably priced, has excellent free internet and there are even free international calls from the rooms as a bonus. All in all, we couldn’t have asked for more and we’ll definitely go back to Ada Hotel the next time we’re in Istanbul.

I can only echo the comments of many others – a wonderful hotel (I have spent 25 years staying in Hotels in many countries). It is run by a wife and husband with high standards, at very reasonable prices. The location is exemplary, 3 minutes from the Hippodrome and the main sights. Yes, you are woken by the call to prayer - this is a predominantly Muslim country, and we expected that: even the best double glazed windows will not prevent the now electronically amplified calls being heard all over the city.
We stayed in one of the sea view rooms (401) at the top and it was more than large enough for us – we considered the extra €10 per night over the standard tariff exceptionally reasonable (December 2012). I can’t comment on the standard-rate rooms. Emails were answered promptly and courteously, including quickly acceding to a request to extend our stay by a day, to six days.
The room was very promptly made up when we went out in the morning – it was good to be able to return around midday to recover and warm up. I have been in some other very expensive hotels where the room was not made up until late afternoon – the ‘please make up the room’ sign seemingly being an irrelevance to them.
Some have remarked that it is not a hotel, it is a B&B, to which I would say it depends on your definitions. To me it is definitely a hotel, but just look on their website – it is clear they do not have their own restaurant. Their eating recommendations to us were very satisfactory, and we used their suggestions for over half of our evening meals.
One of the nicest things we found about the ADA were the additional touches:
• Minibus collection at the airport is free for stays of more than 3 days booked through their website – a great help to us in the confusion of taxi touts just outside the airport building. Even if you do not qualify for the free transport, you can email the ADA to ask them to book you transport to the hotel, which is likely to be more reliable than a taxi driver picked at random.
• Water in the fridge is only charged at cost – no mark up. Similarly postcards, in the lobby.
• There was a very wide range of foods for breakfast – from conventional European, to Turkish, with the exhortation ‘that is nice’ when we were trying to decide what Turkish foods to have. We do breakfast early(ish!) so were there at 08.15 when they began.
• There are two ‘indoor’ areas to the roof terrace where you can have breakfast in colder weather – one smaller area has the advertised wonderful views over the Sea of Marmara, and the views of the shipping coming and going. The terrace is open all day, so you can go up there just for the views later on (and watch the activities on all the other roof terraces below!)
• Taxis/minibuses were booked for us, with advice on how much it should cost. On the one occasion we deviated from the advice, we were indeed ‘ripped off’ by a taxi driver – the taxi meter appearing to change gear at certain times, and a 20TL note mysteriously disappearing as we handed over the fare – moral – take the advice of the hotel owners (who had recommend taking the bus, but we didn’t follow it).
• We were there for New Year and our hosts gave us some New Year gifts on leaving (don’t expect this for every visit!) – but again it is an example of little things that make a significant difference.
Some specific tourist trips/events were suggested, but there was no pressure to accept the suggestions, and as we had pre-planned our itinerary, there was help given in suggesting the best ways to go about it.
No much else to say, as so many others before us have made the same positive comments. We now know why they are so highly recommended. Thank you to the owners and their staff.

Room Tip: Top sea view room, 401

We went to Istanbul for our honeymoon where we stayed at Ada hotel. The hospitality of everyone at the hotel made us feel like home. In fact, the original plan of spending only 3 days at Istanbul extended to 6 days thanks to Dr. Dogan warm hospitality. Clean room and fresh towels always awaits us after a long day of enjoying the amazing city of Istanbul. Ada hotel is defiantly my only stop at Istanbul.

I spent 6 nights at the Ada Hotel, first in a standard room and then in a sea-view room. I changed rooms because I decided to extend my stay, and all the standard rooms were already booked, so the owner offered the sea-view room at no extra cost. The standard room was slightly larger and had a very convenient kitchenette with tea/coffee making facilities, while the sea-view room, although smaller, offers a jacuzzi right in the room. Tre free wi-fi connection was excellent everywhere in the building.
The hotel is situated just a few steps from the Blue Mosque and all the major attractions, and it's extremely easy to get to other areas of the city (such as Taxsim square or Dolmabahce Palace) by tram n. 1, which has a stop very close to the hotel. It is located in a very nice, quiet side street, with a view on a small mosque and onto the sea. The rooms are spotlessly clean, the beds really comfortable, the buffet breakfast is large and offers a good variety of very nice dishes - the breakfast room is on the rooftop, with a wonderful view, and in summertime you can have breakfast on the terrace!
Everyone has been extremely helpful, they responded very quickly to all my enquires when I was booking, and they also booked a transfer to Sabiha airport for just 10 euros. I have been in Istanbul in off-season, so in the summertime the hotel might have slightly higher rates, but I found it really excellent value - the best hotel I have been to during my 2 weeks stay in Turkey!

Ada hotel was above and beyond my expectations. My husband and I had been to Istanbul for 5 days using AirBnB in the Beyoglu area, and after traveling to Cappadocia, came back and stayed here for another 3 nights. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast was hearty and had a wide variety. The hosts were friendly, personable, and eager to help. We couldn't have asked for more! I would recommend Ada hotel to anyone visiting the old city of Istanbul!

If you are looking for a clean and friendly boutique hotel with a cozy ambience, great service and excellent views of bosphorus/marmara sea in Istanbul's most historic part, Sultanahmet, then make a full stop here and look no more. Ada hotel has it all.

My wife and I spend few days in Istanbul every once in a while and have tried several other hotels in the area before we discovered ADA. Ever since, there is no more searching for any other options. We do we like about Ada?

Location: It is located just few foot steps away from all major historic sites of the city (Blue Mosque, Hague Sofia, Basilica Cistern, Top Kapi Palace etc. There are plenty of small restaurants in the area offering pretty good local and non-turkish cousine, for those who are desperate for some big-chain stuff - there is burger king and starbucks within a walking distance from the hotel. Taxis, tram, buses - all are available from the main square.

Hotel amenities: it is a relatively small family-run boutique hotel owned by a wonderful retired couple. Mr. Demet is an easygoing but very helpful and attentive person. We had all kinds of different requests during our stays, and all of them were attended very efficiently, and most importantly, with enthusiasm from the hotel staff. Rooms differ by size, view and presence of in-room jacuzzi. I would personally give-up the size and the bath-tub for a sea view, which is really great from Ada if your room is on 3/4 floor. The rooms are not on a large side, but very clean and tastefully decorated with nice traditional turkish accents.

Breakfast: notwithstanding a good variety and quality of the breakfast, it is a breathtaking sea view that makes it exceptional.

All in all, ADA is a great hotel and is a great value for the money.
