This is the first time my wife and I stayed in this hotel and our very first hotel experience in Istanbul. The staff at reception were quite friendly and ever willing to help . Even though much information about tourist sites is easily available via brochures and guides, the reception staff telephoned in advance and confirmed timings and rates eg. whirling dervishes/hamam etc. Though we got a small room during the first leg of our trip, we found the it quite clean and comfortable. The hotel was gracious enough to give us a bigger room when we returned after a few days. The cleaning staff are also efficient and greet you with warm smiles whenever you bump into them. The terrace of Block B, where breakfast is spread offers some fabulous views of the Marmara. This place located at the heart of Sultanahment is a stones throw from all major attractions saving us money on transport. All in all best value for money,

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors are better.

First of all, it all started with the amazing staff there. My husband and I were exhausted from traveling and eventhough we werent up for much conversation, they were so polite and humble! As they were for the our whole stay there! Daily breakfast is very good! Not your traditional continental breakfast, better! they had eggs, muffins and other baked goods, delicious yoghurt, fruit, tea, coffee, variety of cheese, etc. it is a full bteakfast and you get to enjoy it up in their terrace! With beautiful relaxing views of the city, it's an amazing way to start the day.
The rooms are homey and comfy. Their rooms are diferent sizes and have diferent views, so you might get a small room, a large room with a small bathroom or any combination. We had to stay in a direfent room our first night and it was small, but it had a great balcony! When we moved, we had a big room, an amazing sea view room (a tiny balcony) and an awkward shower (part of the building structure is in the middle of the shower so you cannot stand up straight in it... didnt really bother us though... this is the real reazon for the mark down in the rooms so people are aware, we also had a small issue with the fridge in the first room... they stored our drinks in their fridge upstairs for us :) ) so give and take with the rooms, but we thought they were great! And even if you do or dont spend much time at the hotel, it is a very nice place to hang out in. They clean them daily... And yes! They do have wifi! It kept on crashing while we were there, but then again we were not concerned with the internet during our stay in Istambul. And if you absolutetly have to log on and can't, the staff is glad to let you borrow their computer.
They also provide laundry service, and they help you out with direccions and recommend some good places and tours of the city.
Be ready to do some walking, up and down the streets to get to the big touristy places, but even if one day you are not up for it, there is a restaurant and a few markets next to the hotel. And in case you forgot your adapter for the wall outlet, conveniently there is a telephone/electronics store down and across the street.
Overall it was an amazing stay and will definitly stay here again in the future. Highly recommended :)

We stayed in this hotel two years ago and it was a really nice experience (look at my previous review on tripadvisor). We returned there this year and it was a bit disappointing. We booked late, during the crowdy Ramazan Bayrami, and there was just one room. They gave us a very small double room for 63 euro a night, much more than what we paid for a much better and bigger room two years ago. We accepted because it was sold out everywhere, expecially in Sultanahmet, where the hotel is situated. But this time the room, although clean, nice and with every confort (tv, air-con, wi-fi...), was a bit sad and claustrophobic being in the basement (a floor under the reception) and with a bad smell coming from the bathroom. Definitely too expensive. These are the bad notes. In positive: waiters and receptionists were very kind and efficient and breakfast (in the lovely terrace) was good and tasty, even better than two years ago.

Room Tip: avoid rooms in the basement

We thank you a lot for sharing your ideas with us and we have been very happy to see you again at our hotel. We are grateful for your thoughts about our hotel being clean, enjoying the breakfast and kindness of our staff. Unfortuenalty, we could not provide you a better room since your stay was among a very high season, just through the Ramazan Bayrami, when the hotels in the area was fully booked. Indeed, the price for that period was relatively reasonable comparing to other hotels, however it might be more expensive than your previous stay in accordance with the occupancy of the hotel. We also apoligaze for the bed smell which was related to the drains out to the hotel which is fixed up now.
We hope to see you again at our hotel and we will certainly provide you a better room, hoping to receive a better review.

I agree with other reviewers that this place is not for anyone with mobility issues, nor, though, is it for those of us who are used to a certain amount of comfort. Our room was cramped, the beds firm and more uncomfortable than others in Turkey. The towels were a bit worn and in one case quite frayed. The location was OK, but not as good as out other Istanbul Hotel - the Faros.

Thank you for sharing your ideas with us which are very helpful for us to improve our services. We apologize for the inconvinence with the towels and we notified our housekeeping staff accordingly. Indeed, we change such towels as soon as relavant staff spot any. On the other hand, our beds are brand new and orthopedic, but you may find them slightly bit harder than usual.
Our hotel is renovated from an Ottoman Mansion in which restorations to be done keeping the original features of the building. Faros Hotel is within another price range, therefore peratins to a different of range of quality. We are trying to offer the best service for the value.

Deniz House hotel is compact cozy hotel. It is near to Hippodram. The hotel is neat and clean and all its staff are co-operative and smiling.

The morning breakfast is good with lots of options. It was pleasant to have breakfast at rooftop with nice view around it.

The rooms are not spacious, it is very compact. We booked double bed room but found the bed and vacant area very less. And if you are a tall person then you should always check your head whenever you enter room. However, it was not a big issue to us as throughout the day we were outside hotel. In case, if you have to spent more time in hotel then have a double thought to it only because we found hotel room not spacious.

Room service were done daily, with no complains to it. Television, A/C, Fridge all were working in good condition. Hot water supply was there in a bathroom.

It is a associate hotel of backpackers and overall we were fairly satisfied with it.

My friend and I stayed in Deniz Houses in August and were very happy with our experience. It isn't fancy but is excellent value for money. The room was a reasonable size, the bed was huge!, and the bathroom was fine - plenty of hot water, most importantly. We chose a sea view room which was lovely. A main road goes along the water front, and a train line, so it could have been very noisy but the double glazing is very effective so it didn't bother us at all. An individual air conditioner in the room was a life saver. The staff are friendly and helpful. We took up their offer to arrange a boat trip, which was fantastic. Also the hammam, which was less so. The breakfast buffet is really excellent. Very importantly, the location of the hotel is great - a nice quiet little street but a short, enjoyable walk into the centre of Istanbul. The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and many other major sites all within easy reach. Use the tram too, it's fantastic - cheap, clean, air conditioned and easy to use (pick it up in main square by the Blue Mosque & Hagia Sophia). Also recommend the Marmara Cafe just up the street from the Deniz Houses as a great last stop in the evening....smoke one of their fragrant hookah's and hang out with the locals. All in all, we had a fantastic time in Istanbul and would heartily recommend this hotel as a base. Thank you to all the lovely staff!

We enjoyed our stay in the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
There has to be mentioned, that the hotel is not for disabled and elder persons, as the breakfast room is on the 4th floor and there is no elevator. The breakfast was nice and the staff also very helpful.
The TV was working but we didn't receive a german channel.
We had the no. 1 room beside the reception. It was a nice room with a big terrasse. Unfortunately this room wasn't high up so we had a fence at the front. There has also to be mentioned that the train is passing infront of the hotel aswell as a big road. It is a little bit noisy but you get quickly used to it.
Even so we would recommend this hotel as it is very close to all the attractions.

Room Tip: higher floors have a better view. room 1 and 2 are on the ground floor.
