The hotel has a festive surrounding and the neighbourhood remains lively till late hrs. Facilties offered by the hotel are also good- breakfast, rooms etc. The man at the front desk Mr Okhan was very friendly and helpful.

We arrived at 1am, very tired, getting at the hotel after a day long trip from the interior of Turkey. The staff was badly humoured, and took almost half an hour to describe leaflets and discounts on touristic services offered. We listened educately but very upset as wanting to get to bed with our special needs daughter. After all, without any advanced notice by the time of reservation, the full payment was required as no option. It was like to fell blackmailed. At 1am, or you pay or you go to find another place. So we had to arrange money to pay at that time of the night. In addition, the currency conversion rate was lower than streets money shops. It was really a very bad and stressing reception. Never again.

Room Tip: Next time I will look for another hotel.

First of all thsnk you very much for choosing your hotel.
We would like to express our sincere apologies for how you feel you were treated.
We provide leaflets to all our guests and we try our very best to provide the highest quality of information. this is our general protocol and there is no pressure to comit.
We fully appreciate that you feel agrieved about the request fır payment, however,we would like to clarify that this was only a reminder about the payment and there was some miscommunication about payment methods rather than to pay upfront. we always comply with legal exchange rate and we apprreciate that this is subject fluctuation. we hope that you would consider a stay with Hotel Agan again and we would like to apologise about the misunderstanding.

This hotel is an excellent choice close to the blue mosque, topkapi palace few mins walk.
Value for money. Spent 3 nights here and wasnt disappointed. Staff very helpful nothing was too much trouble, if you eat here you also get a 10% discount. Food and choice excellent. Rooms very comfortable and tastefully decorated. Very hard to find fault with, no hesitation in recommending.

We arrived at Agan Hotel for our 7 night stay after being picked up promptly at Ataturk Airport (which was organised by the hotel) to be told that we had been upgraded to a suite rather than our pre-booked double room... and so our fantastic experience began! We began our holiday amid the troubles at Taksim Sq but shouldn't have worried, as we didn't see the slightest bit of animosity. The hotel staff assured us and offered us advice about places to go and see. After a walk round the area, I believe we couldn't have picked a better central location for the main sights in the old town, with the Blue Mosque and Agia Sophia a ten minute amble round the corner. The staff I found extremely pleasant and friendly. We enjoy a social atmosphere, so this hotel was ideal for us.The restaurant/bar beneath the hotel was quite busy so the ambiance was a bit rowdy at times, but totally enjoyable and we certainly didn't hear anything that would keep us awake. The rooms were clean and comfortable with our sheets and towels being changed everyday whether they needed it or not! I would definitely go back to Agan Hotel time and time again, its a shame that other reviewers didn't have the same experience as ourselves. Take time out to talk to the lads in the bar and you wont be disappointed, they were brilliant, even the ones with limited English skills (MATRIX AND CHEEKY CHARLIE!) we can now speak as much Turkish as they can speak English!!! A thoroughly enjoyable stay.....

Room Tip: suites are spacious but a lot more expensive

Spent 5 days in Istanbul in June 2013. My sister and I went to enjoy the city and witness its magnificent history. We wanted decent accomodation at affordable price and perfect location. Agan provided exactly that. Location can not been better - we came from airport using public transport (which can not been better), without any difficulties and previous experience with Istanbul (just checked Istanbul public transport map and mailed hotel staff on which tram station to exit - Gulhane tram station).
We expected small room and some noise, based on other reviews, but faced room of decent size (406) and noise from the street or trough the walls was not problem at all. Room and bathroom are clean, furniture, towels and linen new, beds perfecty comfortable. Eating breakfast at the terrace perfect way to start the day. Food itself was not the special but everyone can find something. Our last morning it was even excellent, with tasty potato and grilled vegetables, apart from all other usual items. Staff at the breakfast were pretty relaxed, you might be in position to clean the table from previous guests in order to have your breakfast, something I don't mind but some guests were complaining. Same staff at the evening are trying everything to get you sit and have a dinner here, with the approach we were not used to, but learned this is normal for Istanbul and all restaurant staff are doing the same. It might be annoying but just relax and make fun. You can pass after 30 sec by the same waiters and they would repeat the whole approach, without remembering they have already approached you. This is their job and your is to choose the restaurant you want, without loud and slightly agressive approach.
We had dinner in hotel restaurant (Salute restaurant and pub) first night, we were not delighted and wanted to try other places as well.
We definitely want to explore this wonfpderfull city again and our choice for accomodation will be hotel Agan again. Free Internet access was big plus also.

After a rather bad experience of our Internet being hacked and our booking mysteriously cancelled the Hotel Agan pulled out all the stops to re - book our cancelled rooms just a couple of days before our departure. As third timers to Istanbul and Hotel Agan, we were treating our son and his girlfriend to a rather special weekend break and were certainly not disappointed with the rooms found for us at such short notice and the fantastic hospitality provided.
The hotel is in a great location and cannot be faulted for its friendly staff and service. Yes, there is some noise. It is situated right in the centre of a busy tourist area of the city, with other restaurants, bars and nightclubs so if you want peace and quiet, you will need to find somewhere on the outskirts, but all the rooms have pretty effective double glazing and air conditioning so you can minimise it by keeping your window shut. We certainly experienced no noise from other guest's rooms as suggested by other reviewers, though we were situated on the fifth floor. Both rooms had double beds, all that we needed and were clean and comfortable.
The food is good , reasonably priced ( 10% discount for hotel guests) and plentiful and there is a great choice from breakfast through to dinner.
All in all, a great little family run hotel that provides a very comfortable and friendly base for your stay in Istanbul and one that we will certainly keep going back to !

Room Tip: Rooms on fifth floor around corner are quieter

On a first-time, four nights stay in Istanbul, I booked the Hotel Agan. It's very centrally located in Sultanahmet, which makes getting around extremely convenient. The area is very touristy, with lots of restaurants, bars and mini markets in the cobbled, pedestrianized streets nearby. I can't stress enough how conveniently located the Agan is.

Checking in was very pleasant – I was arriving rather early (12-ish), and the staff went around hunting for rooms that had been cleaned. In the meantime, I got a map and information about possible activities. After just a very short while, a room was found, and I was guided there by one of the employees. This was a great service.

The room was a very small double. The bed occupied the entire width of a corner, and then there was a cupboard, TV, fridge and the exit door. Curiously, the bathroom was not this cramped. Although being on the fifth floor, there was quite a bit of noise from the streets until late in the night – to be expected in such an area. Unfortunately, the walls and door are very thin, which means you hear everything going on around you in the hotel as well.

Breakfast was Turkish, and not really my favorite. However, there was some choice, albeit almost no cooked food. The coffee, however, was freshly prepared from a machine and tasty.

In all, I enjoyed the stay, but would have wished for a bit less noise and a larger room. The staff, however, did a great job and with the excellent location, I wouldn't mind coming back.
