“Overpriced / Baaaad Service.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

Once you enter the hotel door, you realize that you are all by yourself.
Check in was slow. No smiles AT ALL. No good morning at breakfast ... Maybe it is a way of people to pretend that they are cool.
The nicest thing about the room isn't the room itself, but the bathroom. They will charge you US$ 5.00 for a bag of tea. They leave a kettle in the room, but just don't tell you they will charge you for the tea. You get to know that at the check out.
The localization is perfect ! Great neighborhood. The hotel is clean. Breakfast is just OK.
Bottom line is : it is overpriced for what it is.

I stayed at the Sofa Hotel for a business meeting for several nights. The room was very nice and the bathroom was fantastic. The food at the restaurant was very good. We did have an issue with smoke filling the building and when many of the guests became concerned, we were told it was nothing. Although the situation was resolved, many of us voluntarily left the building and went outside which I think the staff should have recommended until the smoke cleared. It was a long distance from the Sultanahmet area where most travelers like to visit and I didn't feel as safe walking around as a woman by myself as I did in Sultanahmet. Although it was very nice, I don't think it was worth the price.

I was in Istanbul for 6 nights on a business. I choose this hotel cause of the location and a friend's recommendation. I have travelled to Istanbul over a dozen times and stayed at many hotels around Nisantasi mainly cause this is a very nice area. Lots of bars and cafe's nearby with excellent food choices. Most popular night clubs (Istanbul can Party) like black, Reina, etc are 10-15 min taxi drive from this area. Very important when you wanna come back to your hotel after the party is over :)

The Good -

Great location : Many good bars and restaurants in walking distance and lot os shopping as soon as you get of the hotel. Bag opposite is a mall with a very good cafe on the top floor next to the cinema hall.

Room : The room was average size with almost all basic amenities of a good 4 star + hotel. The best part was the bathroom with a great shower and nice bath tub. Enough space around the washbasin counter.

Excellent staff : Very helpful and attentive to your needs

Breakfast : Quite good keeping in mind you are in Europe and not Asia

Roof top restaurant : The hotel has a very nice bar/restaurant on roof top called frankie. Very good view and service. Didn't try the food but the drinks though expensive were served well

Bad -

Room : Size is small considering the price you pay

Security Staff : The security staff at frankie bar was rude and very different than the rest of the staff at the hotel

No WIfi in room : There is just cable internet in the room and if you want to use Wifi you need to be at the lobby and it's free which was nice.

Overall a good hotel with very minor improvements required.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the front of the hotel are larger but you do get traffic noise and some room get direct...

My husband and I have traveled the world (114 countries) and the Sofa Hotel is the first hotel where we immediately felt at home. The hotel is centrally located in the Nisantasi area of Istanbul from where one can easily venture on foot to most worthwhile neighborhoods and thus avoid the horrendous traffic that Istanbul is notorious for. We stayed in a beautiful sun-lit room which offered all the amenities a visitor could ask for. The open buffet breakfast offers a good variety of foods for every palate and is served in a very nice setting. The staff was very friendly and always ready to assist. We highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If you want peace and quiet and get a good night's sleep, ask for a room that faces the back yar...

The Sofa Hotel is one of a group of boutique hotels in Istanbul. If you are weary of international chains of hotels and looking for a unique experience then try Sofa Hotel. It is part of the art community in Istanbul. I witnessed an art auction taking place. Art pieces adorned the hotel corridors. The staff were helpful, courteous and went way beyond the call of duty to provide us with a perfect stay. The room was spacious and comfortable. I highly recommend The Sofa Hotel.

The hotel is situated in the center of Nisantasi which is an upper class neighborhood and the rooms are decorated just to match that high-level and classy atmosphere of the area. The rooms are nice and clean, they have everything you could have forgotten to bring by available in your bathroom and the breakfast is breath taking (im by heart a breakfast person and it almost took my breath away). The only disadv of the hotel is that they dont have wifi which we learned will be implemented by next month.

Stayed here for business on January 2012. This hotel is located in the heart of Nisantasi - nice area of Istanbul with lots of upscale shopping and nice restaurants around.
We arrived at midnight and it took us 40 minutes to check in, considering there was only one person in front of us. It felt like the guy at the reception didn't know what he was doing, and he felt totally fine with his pace. Considering that was after midnight already, I wasn't particulary happy with the way things were going.
I had a beautiful room on the top floor, modern, very spacious, nicely decorated and with a walk in closet. Perfect.
If only my stay was ruined by the check in I would give this hotel 4*. However, on the last night of my stay there was another very unpleasant accident. We all came back to the hotel from the dinner (about 50 people) and went up to our rooms. The last three floors were covered with smelly smoke so people had to come downstairs as they couldn't stay in their rooms. Upon questioning the front desk, they were totally calm about it saying that something happenned with electricity in the spa and very soon the smoke will go away. After 30 minutes just handging around front desk some people started heading back to their rooms (in some of them there were no light). Some stayed outside. For me it was rather scary to go back to sleep in my room, so I just stayed up until my airport pick up in the middle of the night. All my clothes were stinking.
Such thing can surely happen anywhere, in any hotel, but the way it was handled in Sofa showed they had no respect or care for their guests at all. Considering it was 11 pm they could at least ask people to wait in the bar offering them at least some tea/water.
I am visiting Istanbul 3-4 times a year for business and always tell everyone about Turkish hospitality and level of service. Well, this is definately about other hotels, not Sofa.
