“Started bad, ended good. Very helful staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2011

The story started very bad with Garden House, because when I arrived, the room I had booked was occupied (the small suite with a balcony and a sea view). I was proposed several rooms, but I rejected all of them (no balcony, no sea view). Then I was proposed by the hotel owner (I guess) to look on the internet, and I could find the hotel I wanted in Istanbul, they would pay the transfer and the hotel bill whatever are the costs (very generous offer). Still my criteria were terrace and sea view in Sultanahmet, so no thousand of rooms like this. At the end, because I had difficulties to find something, they proposed me to go to the hotel next door, very very nice one, and I had a very big room, WITH my terrace and my sea view, so I was HAPPY!
The next day, they proposed me to stay at the hotel nex door, or to move back to their hotel, and I moved back. And I had the room I wanted, very nice one also.
So frankly speaking, not talking about the hundred of excuses I had from the hotel, from different people (like my story was really unusual), I have to say that it is a crisis situation perfectly handled, for customer satisfaction. I was impressed!!!!

Stayed in the new annexe (Rose Garden House) which was very nicely fitted out and furnished. Room was quiet and had all the facilities we needed. We suggested a couple of improvements re. cooling and blinds.
Our first visit to Istanbul which we found fascinating. Hotel is in excellent location for walking to many of the important sites.
One of the managers, Ayhan, was very helpful with advice on where and when to go places. Useful because weekend visitors can get tied up with large crowds from cruise ships and some sites are closed on Monday or Tuesday. Also very helpful with recommending places to eat and arranging visit to Turkish Baths.
Hotel had snacks & soft drinks available all day, free of charge. This is a very nice touch.
Hotel arranged a private cruise up the Bosphorus for a small group of its guests which was most enjoyable. Lasted about four hours with a guide providing commentary. Departed at a civilised hour and returned in plenty of time to visit the sites around Eminonu.
All the staff were helpful and cheerful at all times. We hope to make a return visit before too long to take in more of the sites we didn't have time for.

Room Tip: Lots of stairs may be a problem for some.

Please disregard NEGATIVE comments about this hotel because it is not true.
I have been to Turkey on many occassions and have stayed in hotels at Sultanahmet but
If cleanliness, location, service, convenience, staff helpfulness, amenities, and value are important for you, this hotel is perfect and is the BEST in sultanahmet.
I would highly recommend Garden House to anyone travelling to Istanbul. It is perfectly located near both the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Aside from travelling to and from the airport, every major attraction is within walking distance. The staff are extremely courteous and helpful they go out of there way to plan out days providing you with recommendations and directions, and set up transportation for your return to the airport. The quality of service sets this hotel apart from every establishment. If you are at all considering a trip to Turkey I would highly recommend the Garden House hotel to other travellers and gaurantee that you will not regret.

There's nothing special about the Garden House building. The rooms are clean but dated. All very very much overpriced. Garden House is a so called charming old style building, forget about that and move on to the new Istanbul hotels. Staff by the way is patient, very helpfull and friendly!

Room Tip: Stay away from the streetside and economy rooms.

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thank you for your review however this is not correct. The Garden House is 19th Century wooden mansion and all the design and decoration is traditional. We would appreciate if you had a quick look to our web page and get an idea of where you will be staying so that would give you an average idea of the hotel and surroundings.
The rooms on the street level are our economy rooms and they are the lowest available rooms and we always do free upgrades if you are having any problems with the rooms ( please read the previous reviews. )

When you arrive in istanbul the city is to big to understand.
The hotel Is near the blue mosque and Hyppodrome.

The moment you enter the hotel the person behind the counter takes away all your doubts.
He starts by introducing the hotel and the city.
The map is all ready to be used and in 2 secs you are in the center of istanbul.

the rooms are Beautifull and taken care off every morning.

I loved this place and the friendly people who run it.
If i go back i am surely ready to have another stay at the garden house.

Garden House was our entry point to Turkey . It could not have been a better introduction, to the warmth and friendliness, the quiet efficiency, the friendliness, the cleanliness and aesthetics of the Turkish people.
The delightful lil' garden inside the hotel which when too cold to sit out in open air, could be enjoyed as the dining hall was in it only warmed by the glass enclosure.
I was travelling with my aunt who is over 80,and they made her feel so comfortable, she did not want to move out at all. At the end of our trip she extended her stay and went back to Garden House, and returned as smitten by the warmth, beautifully done up spaces, and the bountiful breakfast, served with great elan by Sybelle, an artist , and it was evident in the way she laid out the table. My accolade is not complete without mentioning Selchuk, who received us, and always available for assistance. We felt as comfortable as staying with old friends.

Room Tip: All rooms overlooking the garden.
