Before visiting the city for first time, we weren't sure which of the two main locations attracting most tourists would be the right one for us; Sultanahmet or Beyoglu. In retrospect, we feel that staying at the Stone Hotel, which a Turkish friend booked for us, was the right choice. Its location on a quiet narrow street across from the Sokullu Mehmet Pasha mosque and only two blocks from the Hippodrome is ideal for visitors, especially first time sightseers, to walk to Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace. Not far either from public transportation to other parts of this vast and fascinating city.
Our room was small but clean, sunny, and confortable for two people. A view with a sliver of the glimming Bosporus in the distance was a bonus. The muezzin calls where not really disturbing, as we had feared. The bathroom light was a little too dim making the room dark after closing the door. The bathtub was high to get into, especially for people wiht disabilities.
We encountered very friendly and helpful staff from the manager to the cleaning people, all eager to be of assistance. No request remained unfulfilled.
Perhaps because it was late in the season (beginning of October), breakfast was not served in the terrace but in a quaint old world back yard with a buffet in the cellar. It was well stocked with cereal, coldcuts, bread, cheese, yogurt, tomatoes and cucumbers, dried fruit, boiled eggs, fried dough stuffed with cheese filling cakes, turkish tea and instant coffee. Enough for a filling breakfast until a late lunch. Our stay was pleasant and we would return to this hotel.

A place so much to be reccommended! The staff was excellent and incredibly helpful (as I used to work as a tour guide, I have stayed in many hotels and was amazed about the friendliness of the staff). Small but very clean and nice rooms. Small clean bathroom. Great roof top terrace beside an old mosque (beware: the muezzin calls...) and great setting with the view of the sea. The breakfast is superb!! Small alley which is quiet in the night (a rare thing in Istanbul).Short walk to all the sights and the tramway.thanks stone hotel and rıdvan
Perfect choice for a 3* hotel!!

Perhaps it is unfair to even review this hotel because eventhough we had a reservation we did not stay. First, regarding the location, yes it is in the old city but you need to have the legs of a olympian to make the trek up the from the hotel's location to the the Blue Mosque area.(or any area ) Secondly, our room was more like a cave. It was large, but dark and dank. It had one window set in a thick stone wall over looking a dark courtyard. It had no closet. The bed was lying on the floor. Perhaps this was to affect a harem sort of feel but it elicted a flop house feel to us. The desk in the room had a broken leg. We were not offered a different room when we complained. I have travelled a lot and have stayed in everything from penisions to 5 star hotles. The Stone hotel was was listed as 3 stars. This place is no 3 star hotel in any country. But there are lots of 3 star hotels in the Sultanhamet area closer to the action. Seriously, if you are older or somehow infirmed, this location is going to be difficult for you. We later moved to the Lady Diana, a 4 star hotel near by for very little more money and it was more than adequate and the location was ideal. (The included breakfast on the roof top terrace had stunning views of the Blue Mosque.)

This was a great place to stay and play. Our hosts have now become our friends. Its perfect location for experiencing Old Istanbul. You're in walking distance to most top places you want to see and learn about with a neighborhood feel. It is very safe, we never felt otherwise, 8 traveling women.

The staff is amazing! Emrah and John are friendly, knowledgable and go out of their way to make your feel as comfortable as possible. Don't miss breakfast on the Rooftop, great views especially at 4am!

Also, if you need some souvenirs there's a little shop across the street that needs your attention. Very nice owners with a pretty selection of all things Turkish. thanks stone hotel and rıdvan

The stone hotel is a new hotel in a great location, just 5 minute walks to all the major sites of Sultanamet. The rooms are brand new with excellent showers and the wireless was reliable and actually worked in my room. The breakfast was very nice, but above all the staff were very friendly and helpful. In short, a really nice, new hotel with great facilities and excellent staff. Also, great value! Don't hesitate to book.thanks rıdvan
