Of course the quality of the visit depends of the exhibition they hold in the place. But there are lots of things to do in the area so it's always possible to squezee in any other plan.

I really loved this museum. It impressed me a lot! We visited there free with our turkish friend because museum was free on Thursdays if I am remembering correctly. But only for turkish citizens
An expensive museum (around 6€) with very few things interesting/creative things.
Hopefully they bring new and more interesting things in the future.
Nice modern museum in Beyoglu. Apart from the Anthony Cragg temporary exhibition that comprises several masterpieces, I would like to underline the Burhan Doğançay artworks along with the really interesting photography exhibition about Yildiz Moran.
The only thing I dislike is that tourists pay more than residents.
I visited Istanbul Modern at its temporary location opposite Soho House. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and spent way more time than expected in here. Both the temporary and permanent exhibitions presented works that are inspiring to those working in new media and technologies. Saw some great photography after ages. Felt like I got a sufficient glimpse into the works of modern and contemporary Turkish artists. For a seemingly small place, it packs a lot.
Great exhibitions and even the restaurant is a work of art with a cafe right on the water. A nice compliment to all of the historic monuments.
