“Cold and impersonnal”
Reviewed May 3, 2013 via mobile

This hotel was supposed to be a nice, calm retreat in a residential area on the Asian side of Istambul... But they missed it big time!
Although situated in an old mansion, A'jia hotel has absolutly no charm. The decoration is impersonal, with no character at all, more like a hospital than a hotel. At the reception, in the rooms, nothing invites you to feel at home like what these places are supposed to be.

Most of all you don't get the calm you are looking for: in fact the void open space of the reception makes the noise come straight to your room. We were shocked how much our room in the second floor is noisy! We heard all the conversations coming from the reception!

The service is just ok, but with a lack of warmth. The staff need to improve their language skills. We had just 1 person at the reception with good English!!!

The food at the restaurant has nothing exceptional.

The rooms need some refurbishment, they are starting to look old. Which is not a bad thing if that will force them to make a big re looking for that place, and ameliorate how they disposed the beds to get you to face the view instead of facing the wall.

I think this hotel doesn't deliver what it was meant to be.

Anyway, if you are looking at discovering Istambul, you surely don't go there, it is so far away from anything. And if you are looking for a nice romantic trip, you will be disappointed.

You don't get what you paid for or what you expect.

Big disappointment.

cons of the hotel was a bit tired furniture in the room, but everything else was superb!
the view of the Bosphorus, aqua di parma toileteries, location and especially restaurant was superb! we had the best lunch in Istambul down there. The room with a bosphorus view is a must!
the hotel also offers free shutlle-boat to european part of Istambul.

After staying in a flat in the Beyoglu area for a week, we holed up at the Ajia for the last three days of our honeymoon. There was a slight mix-up with our room and the staff happily upgraded us to a large suite with high ceilings and a balcony overlooking the Bosphorus. I would recommend springing for a room with a view - that's the whole point of this location.

The Ajia has tasteful decor, luxurious bath products, friendly staff, on-demand boat service to Emirgan on the European side where taxis and buses can be taken to the Old City and tourist attractions, and an excellent restaurant.

Fair warning: the hotel is NOT close to the tourist sites of Istanbul, and it will take either time or money to get there, but if, like us, you have already seen the Sultanahmet/Taksim areas, it's a great choice for two or three days.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a terrace or a view of the Bosphorus.

We visited and stayed here for a friends wedding.

We only stayed one night but the hotel staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough to help. The rooms...amazing! The view was just stunning and all of it made for a gorgeous wedding venue.

I wold love to go back to stay again on holiday but maybe only for one night as you are quite removed from the city but its a nice little break away.

This hotel is real luxury and oozes style...highly recommended.

Arrived in a little boat from Emirgan Pier (complimentary service provided by the hotel) to this absolutely spectacular hotel on the Asian side of Istanbul, an old Ottoman yali converted into a luxury hotel. The exterior is old-world and charming, the interior sleek and modern. Spectacular views over the Bosphorus, We spent many hours watching boats and ships go up and down. The restaurant downstairs is amazing, great food beautifully presented and the service was very good.
We were there sans kids for a change and it was everything we'd hoped for and more. Peaceful and luxurious.
For sightseeing we would recommend taking a taxi to Uskudar and then the ferry across to Eminonu. The hotel offers a private boat transfer but pretty expensive.
The only slight negative was that the room temperature was centrally controlled and it was really very hot, when it was pretty cold outside!
Would love to go again.

Room Tip: Definitely select a room with a Bosphorus view

We loved this hotel, the location albeit far from the tourist sights of Istanbul is beautiful. The hotel was previously a private residence located right on the Bosphorous. You have unobtructed views of the water and the Euro side of the city. The hotel can set up a private water taxi to whisk you over to the European side, James Bond style! but don't take the water taxi without enjoying a delicious Turkish breakfast on the deck!
