I arrived in Istanbul on 26 December 2012 still filled with so much emotions of fulfiment of my visit to Konya where I was part of the Seb-I-Aruz of Mevlana. The sema was an experience that will fill my being for a long time and did not think that I ever get a similar experience. I was wrong. I attended the Whirling Dervish Ceremony in Fatih Istanbul. The whole evening was just a continuation of my pilgrimage to Konya. Well organised by Silk Road Events in Istanbul. Although I could not understand the lecture that was ongoing when we arrived, (lack of the Turkish language) I could feel the sincerity and love in the hall. The Sema was authentic just as what I experience in Konya. Well done for a most spiritual evening and can be highly recommended. Tourists treat yourself and go to the ceremony in Fatih. Happy Soul South Africa

I found the performance of the Whirling Dervishes to be a spiritual and touching experience, viewed in the meaning of the sacred ritual of the Mevlevi sect, known as the sema, which is performed by Muslim priests in a prayer trance to Allah. Furthermore, their impact on classical poetry, calligraphy and visual arts was phenominal......I, thinking of my experience, I would like to quote Master Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, the great Sufi poet : The closer I get, the more I see how far I am.~ Rumi♥ I would recommend to anybody to make a conscious effort to attend the Whirling Dervish Ceremony in Fatih...........

A place where you can see and feel authentic Sufi culture. Visit the Sema hours, mostly at 19.30.
