It's nice to find a beautiful Christmas scene in the middle of Istanbul. Our guide showed us how to get there or we probably wouldn't have found it, but we were happy to see such a beautiful church with lovely Christmas decorations in the middle of the city. Considering that Istanbul is a city of 3000 mosques, 200 churches and 20 synagogues, this was a lovely find.

I was in Istanbul for 4 days before joining a tour. Waking up Sunday morning, I decided to find a Catholic Mass. I already knew how to get to Istikiel Street from Sultanamet. It was a little tricky finding the Church as there are few street numbers on buildings. Lovely Mass. St. Anthony's has a Nigerian bishop with many devote parishioners. The music was led mostly by Philopeano (sp) women. The Church is lovely and quiet. Several Popes have been pastors here prior to becoming Pope. Overall, it was a nice view of everyday Istanbul.

If it wasn´t for the fact that a church in Istanbul is itself something special we would most likely have missed it.

So we took a short visit but just a short, compared to many european churches neither the architecture, nor the decorations nor the art were anyhow impressive. It was just a 5 min stop. So no need to set your plan to go there unless you want to attend a holy mess.

After seeing so many mosques it was really easy on the eye to spot a Catholic Church.
Being Catholic and being able to attend a Sunday morning English mass made it even sweeter.
Great experience overall.

When Istanbul it is interesting to find a place like this. The church is very nice and the Istiklal avenue amazing. You will be dissapointed if you compare it with any italian church, or any church in christian Europe, but you will be happy to find it in Istanbul.
