“Hotel Suadiye great place unfairly maligned”
Reviewed August 4, 2013 via mobile

OK Folks, you're in Turkey, gateway to the Middle East next to Iraq Syria and Azerbajan, they aren't supposed to speak English like you were in a Holiday Inn in Chicago or smile at you like a London school girl. This is a different part of the world, people act differently. Some local friends made arrangements for me to stay at Hotel Suadiye. Reading the Trip Advisor made me quite wary but I do trust my friends and had little choice anyway. Because of the mixed reviews, I was very observant. This is a very nice hotel, great location, clean modern well kept. The staff is friendly and tries very hard. The rooms are veery nice and all of my middle American requirements were fulfilled. Yes, not everyone speaks English, but there is always someone around that does. The ladies in the restaurant go about their busineess quite efficiently without the smiles and eye contact taught at the Cheesecake Factory. Once again, you are in Turkey. Everyone had a great attitude and seemed to want to meet whateve your need. The bar on the roof has such a magnificent view and ambiance that you will forget to notice if there is any servce at all. I only sat at the bar and the service was fine, but what a beautiful place. So if the location on the Asian side is good for you, Hotel Suadiye is a great choce. And remember people this is Turkey, not middle eastern Illinois. They aren't supposed to speak English or act like they were trained by Disney. If you want that, go to Orlando.

The hotel is located in a great location, where ferries can take you to many different islands.

The hotel is clean and comfortable.

The customer service -- overall -- is very disappointing. There are, however, some very nice people at the front desk. Both of the men that I encountered were very helpful and knowledgeable, and spoke very good English. Also a young lady who normally worked the day-shift also very nice and helpful. But another younger lady at the front-desk was not so. On one occasion my room-key wasn't working and she re-activated it but without making eye-contact and in a impersonal manner. The following day I asked her if he could help me place a restaurant phone order since I speak no Turkish and she declined to help -- she said that is something that they don't do -- yet her colleague had helped do something similar before she was on her shift.

The Room Service is very good. The lady who heads that department speaks good English, is very helpful and very competent -- she should be the GM.

The Restaurant Staff, not so good. In the morning the hotel has a breakfast buffet which is fairly good. There seem to be 5 or 6 waitresses there to pour coffee and clear the dishes. Except for one works, the others seem to stand around chat with each other. They do not greet the customers, never simile, and seem to disappear frequently to the back. If they gave the customers as much attention as the manager (who they all seem to swarm around), the service would be good. But apparently this manager (who speaks 0 english), determines their fate. One such waitress in the afternoon was behind in the main lobby. When I entered as the customer with my children, she (as usual) didn't greet me nor ask me if I or my children would like to have something to drink. Instead, all she did was stand behind the counter, and text the whole time on her telephone -- my children and I left soon after that.

I've stayed in Hotel Suadiye for almost a month for business (late May - early June).
Hotel is on the great location, near to both Bağdat Caddesi (great for shopping and dinning) and the coast (great for walk, running, biking etc.). Kadiköy ferry port is easily accessible by Dolmus (for the cost of 3-4 Lyras).
Hotel staff was friendly and helpfull.
Room was big and comfortable, decent sized bathroom as well. Complimentary breakfast in Cafe Paris was decent.
No iron or ironing board in the room, however that is a case with every hotel in Istanbul I was staying in up to now.
WiFi is free, but it's very slow in the best case. Sometimes it was simply unusable (either not able to connect at all, or if connected unable to browse) - this is something hotel management should improve a lot.

Well... Only few of the personnel speak English. They must have forgotten it's a HOTEL. Service at the hotel and their Cafe de Paris (including bar/lounge) is terrible. Receptionists are anything but helpful and I definitely didn't care for their attitude. Restaurants are something! I hardly found an English speaking waiter, who brough me white cheese sandwich instead of the cheeseburger I ordered and it took them 1 hour to cook this cold cut sandwich. Another time I waited for over 1 hour as well, and it was a fixed menu meal. The only good thing about the hotel is its location. Very close to seaside.

Great location to bagdat avenue perfect for shopping and restaurants. Rooms were big and very clean. The beds were very comfortable. And a great sized bathroom. Although slightly overpriced would stay again and recommend to others.

Perfect location at Anatolian side. One of your very rare options actually. Very clean and fancy place. On Bağdat st. One of the best places in Istanbul for shopping and entertainment (full of classy cafe, shop and outlets). On the other hand, the smallest rooms possible in this level of hotel. I wasn't able walk straight between the TV and bed. The distance between two were like 40cm approx. And the breakfast was also quite cheap. Not even a real orange juice but a cheap concentrate. You have to try and catch a waiter for a tea/coffee refill. But the location and lack of alternatives make it my common place to stay when I'm around.

Great location on the Asian side, right next to the shore and by Bagdat Caddesi. Nice rooms with seaside view. Not a party hotel, good if you're staying for business or travelling. Shuttle service to Sabiha Gokcen Airport.
