“Fabulous hotel in a great location”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

I spent a week in this hotel and loved it. The location was so close to everything in the area. It only took 5 minutes to walk to the Blue Mosque and from there an easy walk to just about anywhere. I love to walk so I walked everywhere. I found it easy to walk down to the harbor and the Egyptian Spice Bazaar and also as far as the amazing Suleymaniye Mosque, which is often over looked because everyone heads to the Blue Mosque. Topkapi Palace and Saint Sophia are both within a few minutes walk.
There are many great restaurants in the area and I always stopped to chat and became friendly with everyone in the area. So each day when I set out it was nice to have people call out a greeting to me by my name.
I was travelling on my own and felt safe at all times of the day and night.
My hotel room was very clean and comfortable. The rooms are not huge but that is common for the small hotels in this area. The staff were very pleasant and incredibly helpful.
Breakfast was a great especially as the room had the most amazing views over the city and the harbor.
If I return to Istanbul I will definitely stay here again.

We spent a week at the Mevlana boutique Hotel and left feeling that we could not have made a better choice. From our first contact with Ismail and Enis by email to arrange airport transfers, to the end of our six night stay, everything went without a hitch. Our room, although not very large, was comfortable, air conditioned and catered adequately for our needs. The hotel is located in a relatively quiet part of Sultanahmet and yet is only a fifteen minute walk from some of the major attractions and the sea. Although our room overlooked the narrow road below, noise was never a problem with the windows closed. Within minutes of leaving the hotel on foot, you find yourself in a long narrow street with many offshoots, all packed with restaurants, a bazaar and shops aimed at tourists, which really bustle at night. The fifth floor breakfast room provides wonderful views over rooftops to the Sea of Marmara and mouth of the Bosphorus, while breakfast itself offers a wide variety of cereals and the traditional Turkish meats, cheeses and breakfast salads. The rooftop terrace is a great place to spend a couple of hours at the end of the day, relaxing in the sun and watching the shipping and fishing boats out to sea. But what makes this hotel really special is the staff. Ismail and Enis could not have been more friendly, hospitable and helpful. We were offered tea and coffee on arrival and given a comprehensive briefing on what to see and do, and how to get about in Istanbul. Nothing was too much trouble, even extending to the offered use of an umbrella when raining. If you have visited Turkey before, as we have, you will not be disappointed. If not, this hotel will give you an introduction to the warmest hospitality that Turkey has to offer.

Room Tip: Probably best to avoid the fifth floor as breakfast starts early

The Boutique Mevlana Hotel is very well located as it is walking distance to the major sites in Istanbul. Only the Grand Bazar is outside of the immediate neighbourhood. A distinct advantage of the Mevlana over other hotels in the distriict is its location at the extreme end of the popular street and away from the night noises. The rooftop breakfast room is a lovely way to begin the day. Although the hotel is not responsible for it, I would avoid the Bosphoros tour. You can take a boat from the harbour by yourself and visit Asia. Enis will tell you how to get there.

Room Tip: Rooms on the fifth floor must be noisy since that is where the breakfast room is.

This hotel is in an excellent location, has great accommodation, sea and mosque views from their rooftop patio but what makes this place even better is the helpful staff. We spent a week at Mevlana and could not have been happier, Enis, Ismail and Ozgur were incredibly helpful in whatever we asked them. Thank you for making our stay so great!!

This was our first visit as a family to Istanbul. The Hotel Mevlana is ideally situated in the heart of historic Istanbul, not more than a 7 minute walk from the Blue Mosque. The staff are marvelous, providing current and historical information with a smile. Ennes and Ishmael, in particular, are excellent ambassadors of Turkish hospitality. We stayed 6 nights and will certainly return.

Room Tip: Rooms located on the third floor up are more removed from street noise, however, this was not a majo...

Situated in the heart of Sultanahmet the Mevlana is the ideal base for exploring Istanbul. From the warm welcome, the hotel provided everything the customer could wish. Rooms, though small, are comfortable and warm, we visited at New Year 2011. Breakfast is hearty, though the real winner is the view over the Bodphorus from the breakfast room at te top of the hotel. It's location means that Istanbul's top sights are less than ten minutes walk from the hotel. All in all the ideal, value for money location for your visit to Istanbul

The star of this hotel is Enis, receptionist and travel adviser. He was friendly and helpful throughout, fixed our Wifi problem, advised on best ways to move through the city and has a deep understanding of the history of the main attractions. The Mevlana Hotel is situated in the heart of old Istanbul which mean that many of the main attractions are literally in walking distance, from the Blue Mosque to Topcapi Palace and the amazing Grand Bazaar. The hotel is one of the many boutique establishments in the area and is good value for the rates charged. The double room we had was not exactly roomy but was adequate, very clean, simply but tastefully decorated in local style and had very good air conditioning. The view of the city and sea over breakfast is very attractive, though if you are writing home, you’ll not find much to say about the fayre. Overall, a basic hotel – you get what you pay for, however the friendly staff are an added bonus. The owners also own a carpet and pottery shop nearby where good discounts can be had for hotel guests.
