We stayed in this hotel twice - 3 nights for each booking. The staff were efficient (mostly) but I didn't get a feeling that the staff were particularly friendly (but they weren't unfriendly either).

The room (basic double) was so so... The first stay we overlooked about 10 air conditioning units surrounded by barbed wired - not really nice. Air conditioning unit was effective and bed was reasonably good (I think this was room 203). Tiny room and the bathroom could have used more lighting (another 12 months and they will need renovations I think).

Our second stay was in room 403 ( I think) - same as first stay just 2 floors up... Same deal but the view was better (but the shower in this room was terrible - basically a thin jet of water you could not adjust). Depending on time of morning would water would go slightly cooler as you are showering (KimbaKake is used to the rain bird type of showers where you basically have a waterfall coming down on you, so nothing else will suffice LOL).

The hotel IS however, in an excellent location - seconds and minutes to everything including some nice places to eat, coffee places etc and although it wouldn't necessarily be my first choice to stay, I would not discount it.

Small, very friendly and perfectly placed to access the main sights of Sultanahmet (5 minutes to the Hippodrome and Blue Mosque, 10 to Aya Sofya, 7 to the tram line for the Golden Horn, Galata and Begolyu, and a 15 minute walk to the Grand Covered Bazaar), the Daphne is highly recommended.

We had prebooked a room with view of the Sea of Marmara but were given an even better one (unrequested) with a small terrace. Too small for seating but wonderful to stand and watch the incessant sea traffic and the mesmeric colour changes during our breaks in the room. Sunsets over the Sea and city are amazing. All can enjoy via the roof terrace - though the terrace of the hotel across the street is more popular for this. The Daphne roof terrace would actually do well acting as an 'honesty bar', as on several occasions we found it unmanned with noone to call.

Room rate includes one way airport transfer, which was a great service and well worth booking the return trip too at c €35 for the hire. Rooms are small with limited storage space but very comfortable and kept very well by the local ladies. All the staff are friendly and most speak English well. We don't do organised tours or guides, but these can be arranged via Reception. Breakfast is substantial and in a pleasant sunny room near reception.

It's true that Sultanahmet is a very touristy area but is nonetheless recommended as the best place to be based in for short Istanbul stays as you are in the heart of the city and its most major historic sites. With incredible views, spot on location and a great ambience the Daphne is highly recommended for a city break.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room (e.g. 401 or 501) with views over the Sea of Marmara. Well worth the small...

Daphne Hotel is a small, very clean and nice hotel in Sultanahment. The staff is very kind, the rooms are clean and most of them have a beautiful view on the Bosporus. On the top of the hotel, there is a sunny terrasse with a magnificent view on the town and the Bosporus.
We visit this hotel since a few years and on every trip to Istanbul we go back to this hotel.
The hotel is very close from the attractions at Sultanahmet and about 10 min. to walk from the fantastic grand bazaar

Room Tip: Ask about a room with direct view on the Bosporus

I stayed for 4 nights in May. While the Daphne hotel met all my expectations, the old city did not. It's over-the-top touristy now. If I were to go back, I would stay in a different location in the city. Still, if your heart is set on staying in Sultanahmet, then stay at Daphne.

Room Tip: the top floor has spectacular views of the sea...

Hotel Daphne is located about a 5 minute walk from the Blue Mosque. From the top terrace you will have a terrific view out toward the Bosporus and also toward the minarets of the Blue Mosque. Through the front desk, we arranged a tour guide to guide us for one day. Our guide was top quality with excellent English language skills, a sense of humor, historical knowledge and flexible enough to adapt to our specific interests. Ask for Ozcan Davascan. He goes by the name of "John" for English speakers.

Room Tip: Room 205 was quiet and comfortable but very small.

The hotel and rooms are lovely. Unfortunately the walls are paper thin. I could hear every word uttered by people in the room next door. To make it worse, they stayed up late into the night (past 1am) watching tv, banging doors and talking.

Breakfast is a buffet with a good selection, but the Bain Marie was not turned on so the eggs were cold - not great. Other selections - cheese, olives, cold cuts - were good.
